Your post inferred that the players shouldn't have been blamed. All I've read is that it's Smegson's fault. Chances are that it is, but I just wanted to put across the theory that it wasn't supposed to be. He wasn't supposed to have had any involvement at all.

I do wonder that if we had have won, would there be so much criticism of Smegson's involvement at all.

What do you think

is on about?

Do you think I was wandering around Fosse Park contemplating the possibility?

I was merely hypothesizing for the purpose of debate. Thracian tends to see things very black and white, and I enjoy the challenge of making the grey bits even more greyer (he hasn't worked this out yet though).

Besides, Smegson only came in on Friday. If he had as much control over proceedings as it looked (and I did question this at the time), someone somewhere has made a huge gaff.

If we had won and Megson had left the team alone then he'd have been congratulated on a productive start.

Had we won and any changes been clearly made with the aim of sustaining momentum and retaining the initiative then I certainly wouldn't have been critical. I've never attacked people for having a go, player or manager.

There is always a risk with any tactics in football.

In football as in other ball games I do see things fairly simply and, indeed, voluntarily colour them black and white because in my considerable experience managing sports teams to acknowledge grey areas is to invite uncertainly and a lack of conviction. Players need to be 100% aware of what's expected of them.

My simple philosophy after taking the lead is to press even higher and tighter than previously and to therefore maintain the pressure to the point of hopefully scoring more goals.

In the event of overwhelmingly superior opposition I might try a different approach but I don't think even you would class yesterday's QPR team as anything approaching "superior". In fact I doubt they would get in the top four in Division One with that side.

As for blame there were any numbers of things I would be privately critical of the players about had I been manager but the dropping of the two points would not be one of them.

In fact there was so little time to go that any changes we made which altered the balance of the side and posed the players unnecessary problems and need to readjust were always likely to be unwise and unnecessary. They would always add to the risk.

And so it proved.

I know it's early days but i can see us having another season languishing in the bottom half of the table, something we did not expect to happen under MM. Let's be honest we havn't had a hard start to the season.

Blackpool - should be taking at least a point against a newly promoted side.

Crystal Palace - at the time it seemed a decent point, should have been three, but it would seem they have a poor side this year.

Watford - brilliant

Plymouth = decent point without a manager.

QPR - terrible result against a terrible team.

So five games gone and we have taken just six points, and with Charlton next week we could be in the relegation zone. Is it too early to be concerned or do you agree? Have your expectations changed from the beginning of the season? Do you expect another poor season?

My expectations have definately changed...the negativity is beginning to creep in :( .

With the amount of signings over the pre-season I was expecting big things (i understand quality is more important than quantity but we have that)...and after the Watford encounter I seriously believed the tide had turned. I hate to dwell on the past but what followed was complete shock. With Allen left the hardness and confidence that he instilled in the players. Sure the result against Plymouth was pleasing with a care taker at the helm but on the weekend I felt like we really botched the opportunity to take 3 points...AGAIN  !!! Form that I have seen Leicester City Football Club produce time after time.

I'm dreading a trip to Charlton, maybe my opinion will change after the Forrest game mid week...that won't be a given...please let me eat my words.

Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?

In my opinion, there were too many people in the dug out. Singling one out would be wrong, but like I say, it's my opinion.

Of course we should have pressed and tried scoring again. We all know that attack is the best form of defence. Do you really think that any one of us likes to see us sitting on a one goal lead? With our reputation?

You make an excellent point about the dug out. Talk about too many cooks...

It is an interesting question!!

I’d say that it is too early to decide one way or the other however, the team definitely has more about them than last year. The likes of clemence, n’gotty and wesolowski’s performances have made the team more resolute for sure which is a relief.

To be honest, I am not overly concerned with promotion (although it would be swell), more interested in seeing what has been a very poor side for the past 4 years become stronger and improve. A top half finish would demonstrate this and not be too much of an underachievement considering there are a lot of new players involved and a new direction. I would hope for top 10. this would be a step in the right direction.

The blackpool game was a predictable result given all the hype.

Although 3 would have been nice, lets look at it realistically, a point anywhere away from home is a great result.

Watford was a very good performance but Watford looked strong for the 1st 25 mins and hume’s goal was against the run of play. City took the initiative and deserved the win.

4v1? Not sure about that

Plymouth – excellent result against a horrible team to play against

QPR? Should have won. Dominated the game but lacked the cutting edge.

The 3 players I mentioned early who have been integral so far didn’t have their best games and neither did anyone else really. But lets not get too concerned. This is a new team evolving and finding their feet. There are more squad players too chomping at the bit eager to play so I’d say that city haven’t found the final staring XI even.

Good to see a decent left back in Sheehan playing rather than nils eric and tiatto.

How refreshing to see a left back under pressure being able to cut in and pass the ball out of defence with his right foot.

I am also a fan of seeing hume on the wing.

City haven’t had an attack minded player coming from midfield for years.

This allows city to have two out an out strikers as humey always liked to come back anyway. He can run, tackle and defend, shoot, cross and has been scoring from there.

He has been great for the team there in my eyes.

What with all the changes and new players I think megson will find a team that will work and organize them together. I don’t think allen was capable of doing this thus being out of his depth hence the chop.

I would be more concerned come November should city be in bottom 6!!
