breadandcheese Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Him and sheehan looked very dodgy on the left at CHarlton Sam and mills took the piss out of them.Hs a long way to go before he is anything like a good player. Seehan too. To be fair, although Mills's reputation as a good footballer has dropped to virtually nil, he has played at the highest level, in a world cup, in the champions league. He has the experience and knowledge, so he should be able to outfox younger inexperienced players. Well done To Mattock on his call-up
Thracian Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Mattock was poor against Charlton. Sheehan was woeful, but Mattock was still poor. I think that was taken as a given. How did Fryatt play? You've said so little.
Finn Claw Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I think that was taken as a given. How did Fryatt play? You've said so little. Fryatt was better than Cort but also poor - very much like comparing sheehan and Mattock. Both charlton goals came from crosses by Sam or Mills followed by comedy defending by the centrebacks.
Koke Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I think that was taken as a given. How did Fryatt play? You've said so little. Fryatt isn't mentioned here because the debate is about Mattock.
WetFlannel Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 did anyone play well at charlton? mattock has good potential, maybe not first team just yet but certainly in future matches. Definately a contender at present though...
Thracian Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 http://www.thefa.com/England/U19s/NewsAndF...9squadeuros.htmAfter missing the Under-17 World Cup, Mattock jumps an age group. My bet he will start tonight, then Villa will buy him in January .Is he the only thing exciting at Leciester at the moment? You are far better able to judge whether Villa will buy him in January than I am and if they did I am sure MON would get the best out of him. But so far this season he's been nowhere near his best. Whether that's his fault or the effect of constant upheaval I don't know but it does tie in with my comment about the club fast-tracking him to get his value up. Question is, while that's happening, is the team going to make some progress? I find it hard to imagine, not because I don't think Mattock is a good player but because I think he's being pushed too hard, too soon for various reasons. Does anyone think what's best for the player? If Villa know now that they want him, fair enough. But why does that necessitate rushing his apprenticeship?
martyn Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Mattock, although not great, was better at Charlton than people gave him credit for. He was effectively playing against 2 men as Sheehan was absolutely woefully anonymous. 2nd half he was the only player on the left side due to tactical alterations and was pretty much the only player still looking to attack with some purpose. He's going to be a very decent player.
