Can I just ask why everyone seems to think we are so good?

I haven't seen for a long time, an England side that has looked good enough to win any peice of silverware.

Everyone is surprised when we are ranked 10th by Fifa, but what is it that makes people think we have a divine right to be at every tourno & a right to make it to The Final?

I know i'm going to get slated, but the team are over-hyped by fans & media. We underestimate our opposition. Sides like Croatia have proved that they work well as a squad in the last 5 years, we clearly haven't.

Tbh mate, i don't think anyone has said we're actually good. I've always said, we think we're better than we are.

What you say is all very well but it is no reason we should be robbed by a penalty that never was in front of a distinctly intimidatory crowd.

It was questionable whether there was even a foul never mind a penalty. If you're not sure something happened then you are not supposed to give it.

The constant resistance to a video replay option to sort such vital decisions leaves a constant suspicion in my mind about the honesty or, more importantly, the bravery and willingness to resist intimidation of referees. Video replays would neuter the crowd's bias dramatically.

You have to accept that the decision in Russia was made in good faith but from what I saw on television it shouldn't have been made. There has been clear misjustice in my view, and the authorities have the means to prevent such mistakes. If they value honesty what earthly reason would they have not to use video evidence?

I agree with you, because of the Premiership being the best league we automatically expect we have the best players. But without the influx of foreign talent the Prem would be a shade of what it is now. We don't have any right to qualify, and in this case I don't think we will. As you said, same with Spain, one of the better leagues yet the national side always struggle.

What you say is all very well but had the penalty not been given, I still think the Russians would have gone on to win it. They had all the momentum.

I quite agree and had Russia scored a merited goal I'd have quite accepted they deserved the result. What is the more disappointing is that I saw no reason for sitting back increasingly deeply.

Spot on, i think a lot of it comes down to the players believing that hype as well. Before a world cup they will be so many magazines/tv/paper/radio interviews. And every player will say we will win it, we are the best bla bla bla. The fans will believe anything they read, so the level of expectation is at least semi finals. Obviously they are told to say were going to win it, but it just makes the players and fans ego bigger.

I agree, but how different are teams on there own soil. Russia weren't that more than average at wembley either. Its not over yet.

Thrac, You watched it on TV, saw 10 Replays, the ref had to make a desicion in less than 5 seconds. When I saw it first time, I thought Peno, and in the split second, from the ref's POV, you can see how we gave it. This is not a good enough reason as to why we aren't likely to quality.

Right so you want the game to stop everytime there's a shout for a penalty so that the 'video ref' can analyse the replays?

I don't think so, maybe so use it for goal-line clearances, but when this happens they will call for it more & more untill our game becomes so slow, the game won't finish untill 6 O'clock, On the sunday morning.
