Milans Foxes Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Been to the reserve game tonight. Hayes never got in the game, actually looked quite average against a very young Sheffield United team.Kenton also played with not much interest, Ferriera showed his talent in patches. Sappelton was impressive until he got injured. We were second best to be fair. The bench was amusing though especially Mike Stowell What was the score mate??
Mikey Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 What was the score mate?? 0-0 for a guess. I think
Geo V Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 which, ironically, was Geo V - who, oddly, didn't disagree with thracian... it's a funny old game I totally disagree with Thrac. Now someone tell me the topic being discussed so I can disagree with 4 paragraphs included.
Geo V Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 We won 2-1Chambers and Beswick with the goals Nice one, I know Sheehan didnt play but did he get any assists?
Jimmy Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Nice one, I know Sheehan didnt play but did he get any assists? wern't he away with IRE U21
Thracian Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 yet thrac was saying Sheehan should be in the team last season despite so destictly average performances for Mansfield on loan, and is saying this year for Louis Dodds who can't even get picked as a striker for Lincoln a) I didn't press for Sheehan to start very often at all last season. Nils did little wrong as a defender and it was only when he was out and we started picking people like Maybury at left back that I mentioned Shehan again. In many ways I thought Sheehan had fallen off the radar for one reason or another. I also shared many of the concerns Manwell had about his defending. It was only in the close season under Martin Allen that I thought he started to show his best form once more. He had good games at Quorn and Hinckley then announced that he wouldn't take the option of a loan but wanted to fight for his place in the first team. That, to me, showed exactly the right attitude. He has continued to do that, as indicated by his staying behind for extra work on his free-kicks and corners etc. He would appear to be benefitting from that work. b) There may well have been perfectly reasonable reasons why Dodds might not have been picked as a striker at Lincoln as I've already explained. Certainly there is no evidence whatsoever the reasoning had anything to do with his ability as a striker.

I often respect what you have to say, but sometimes you just change the rules to suit your argument. And it's bloody annoying. Good result for the reserves btw.
Thracian Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 I totally disagree with Thrac. Now someone tell me the topic being discussed so I can disagree with 4 paragraphs included. Glad you're alright after all. I thought you'd gone down with something! Like perhaps that he hasn't been good enough?I often respect what you have to say, but sometimes you just change the rules to suit your argument. And it's bloody annoying. Good result for the reserves btw. Hardly, seeing he's their leading scorer anyway!
Jimmy Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Glad you're alright after all. I thought you'd gone down with something! Hardly, seeing he's their leading scorer anyway! frank lampard has top scored for over the past few years, doesn't mean he is a better striker then drogba, Dodds cant get a place upfront for a team second bottom in the WHOLE LEAGUE SYSTEM, if he was that great a striker they would not be downgrading his effect on the game by playing him in midfield, for once just open your eyes and see the truth, he isn't good enough
Joe. Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 No Kaebi? Possibly he's in the squad Saturday then
Thracian Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 We won 2-1Chambers and Beswick with the goals It's interesting, with all the debate about Kaebi, to see that Ashley Chambers appears to be returning to top form. Against a very strong Spurs Academy side, Chambers was just about our only shining light, capping an excellent display with two goals and the compliment from a Spurs scribe that he'd like the lad in their side. Chambers at his best is extremely fast and dangerous. He takes people on, gets in the box and scores goals. Another goal tonight after a decent reserves suggests he really is getting close to his best again - and basically from a right midfield role. Serious knee injuries have ruined his last two seasons but Levein didn't give his first team debut at that time for nothing. He's a quality footballer and it's very reassuring to see that hs injuries don't seeem to have cost him his speed. Sounds like an excellent win tonight because our team didn't sound particularly strong, especially in defence.

It's definitely nice to know we've got a player like him who could potentially be a very good player if he keeps things going. The real test for him starts whenever he finds his way into the first team squad though, it's a big step up.
Geo V Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 wern't he away with IRE U21 Yeah you are right. I think that means he only set up one goal according to Thracs logic
Geo V Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 A youthful Leicester City reserve side gained a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the Pontin's League Cup at Worksop Town on Wednesday evening.City went into the game with a win and a defeat to their name from their two fixtures to date in the competition. And victory over the Blades has now put the Foxes in a strong position to qualify for the next round. After a goalless first half, it was the visitors who took the lead through Ashley Chambers at the start of the second period. The nippy England youth international was first to a set piece and did well to tuck the ball past the Blades 'keeper. The home side equalised in the 70th minute, but the Foxes grabbed all three points with seconds of the contest remaining when Ryan Beswick found the net. Goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell said: "It was a tight game and neither side gave much in the first half. "We began the match in a 3-5-2 formation but switched to 4-4-2 midway through the opening period. We then moved to 4-3-3 after they equalised in a bid to win the game. "Young Ashley Chambers looked very bright on the evening and he took his goal well. "We brought Ricky Sappleton off on the hour mark because he was feeling his hamstring a bit. Hopefully it won't be anything serious." City: Pentney, Maybury, Garner, Kenton, Rowe-Turner, Djeziri, Ferreira (Howard 80), McKay, Hayes (Beswick 80), Chambers, Sappleton (Cox 60). Leicester now face Rotherham United in their fourth and final game of the group stage on November 7 at Hinckley United.
kaebifan Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 They are just desperate for one of their own to succeed! We want him to suceed but we are not that desperate! I mean even if we are its because 2 of our great players are not playing at the moment at all(1 injured). Javad Nekounam: plays for Osasuna (regular starter-full 90 minutes)(currently injured) - was named in the top 11 best players in La Liga last year- and the spanish league some would say is better than the premier-league (let alone this league). Andranik Teymourian: Under the old coach at Bolton he played very well and helped Bolton to good finish in the league. This season the stupid sammy lee doesnt use him (for whatever reason) and now he is sacked. and our former best player-Asian player of the year 2004- Ali Karimi - who played for Bayern munich for the last 2 seasons, got injured last season and after a few months out lost his form and later went to Qatar club ( where he is killing every opponent and dribbling past them and assisting half the goals)
Thracian Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Very encouraging about Chambers and yet another goal from the easily overlooked Ryan Beswick.
Lillehamring Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 yet thrac was saying Sheehan should be in the team last season despite so destictly average performances for Mansfield on loan, and is saying this year for Louis Dodds who can't even get picked as a striker for Lincoln not that it really matters, but that was last years campaign, i can't remember a call for dodds this season from him... it is very easy to sit and suggest that thracian changes his arguement (and, of course, nobody else does ) but what thracian has the capacity to do, unlike many on here, and seems to be trying very hard to emphasise just lately, is to support those players who deserve it... dodds, this year has gone by the wayside, last year fryatt was a complete cart-horse, this season he has improved maerkedly, and i find it strange that some people here haven't noticed that thracian's support of these players has shifted accordingly, not to 'suit his argument' but to reflect current form, that's why he has started to speak up about a.chambers, and to be pessimistic about kaebi's chances... if some of you feel it makes you a 'big man' to sit there and huff and puff more tedious criticism about other poster's considered opinions, at least try and follow the Geo V method and have a valid counter-position and reasons for why you think some one is wrong, a plausible alternative, consideration of the point made, or at the very least a healthy and distinct use of irony
Ric Flair Posted 18 October 2007 Posted 18 October 2007 Ferreira looked useful last night, looks like he's regaining his fitness. Still wondering where he'll fit in here though. What with Kaei also vying for a place in midfield, unless we change our formation.
