Great start for Holloway, congratulations to the man for breaking the Leiester City managers 'First game' curse and won his first game

Following the six goal thrashing at Ipswich a fortnight ago, manager Gary Johnson rang the changes, though with both full backs suspended today he would have had to do so anyway. The starting line up saw Cole Skuse given what I believe was his first ever game for us at right back, with Jamie McCombe coming into the centre of defence and Liam Fontaine asked to fill in at left back. On the right hand side of midfield Brian Wilson replaced Ivan Sproule and Lee Trundle came in up front in place of David Noble, which also saw a formation change from 4-4-1-1 to a more conventional 4-4-2.

City started brightly, with Wilson feeding Trundle early on for an effort which went over the bar, before the visitors, one of the more direct sides to visit Ashton Gate so far this season, began to take control.

A rare Carey mistake saw him grateful to Elliott for a magnficent recovery tackle as Leicester broke quickly, before the away side took the lead midway through the first half. A shirt pull by Elliott was correctly penalised and the resulting free kick fell conveniently for the impressive full back Stearman and he drove home fom close range after controlling the ball at the second attempt.

As the half wore on it seemed equally as likely that Leicester would add to their tally as City would score, as we were completely stifled by a side that pressed well and we prepared to give away free kick after free kick awarded by weak referee Moss.

City opted to make no alterations at half time but were forced into one just 5 minutes into the second half when a challenge that could be described as robust at the very least by Wesolowski, saw Skuse badly concussed and he was replaced by Sproule with Wilson moving to right back.

Byfield could have possibly done better following a smart McIndoe pass to him in the box before City's second change saw Trundle replaced by Showunmi.

As in the first half Leicester were always dangerous on the break, and Hume should surely have sealed it when left alone six yards out, but he hit his shot well over the bar.

City's best hope appeared to be from several penalty appeals with Kisnorbo repeatedly shirt pulling, one in particlular on Showunmi seeing the big Nigerian's shirt yanked almost over his head.

With just 12 minutes to go the game was all over as McCombe tried to play offside and a smart pass saw Fryatt make no mistake from close in.

By that time Noble had come on for the woeful Wilson but the only real incident of note afterwards was Fryatt stupidly getting himself sent off late on by hitting Fontaine as he cleared the ball.

So a third defeat and leaving aside the fact that the opposition were allowed to commit 23 fouls and time waste repeatedly, the warning signs are now there.

Firstly some facts which speak for themselves, just 2 goals scored in our last 5 games, (and those scored by Fontaine and Elliott) and a top scorer with 4 show where our biggest problem is, however it is more deep rooted than that.

The confidence of our early season is now missing and with a daunting set of fixtures coming up we need to arrest this slide before it becomes one which sees us suddenly looking nervously at the bottom six.

Poor display today but Leicester looked a cut above - I guess maybe their class was the difference between the two sides today.

I'm not too keen on our back 4 right now, and I'd like to see Sproule in from the start.

Loving this

Stearman's been on the white stuff - probably the same stuff Newton consumed when we played against Brum at home last season.

An excellent 3 points considering how well they've done this season. I'm just hoping we we can win a few games at home now.

We're gonna get promoted now because we've won a game. Yeah.

Newton wasn't there today.

Suprising i thought, new manager and everything, thought he would at least be on bench.

Although Jonny Hayes on recent performances (Reserve's) probably deserve more of a chance in the first team.
