McFoxy Posted 24 November 2007 Posted 24 November 2007 Well the Victory gave me enough optimism to register and post. Like most I think Ollies appointment is a much better one than it could have been. I will however be more convinced when we get back to back victories....Can't wait till monday
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 Right well it's fairly obvious from the scoreline and the way the game went that it was a textbook away performance. We counter-attacked brilliantly in the second half and I think that is something that suits players like Wesolowski, Sheehan, Hume and Fryatt more than at home where the onus is on them to create something from deep when the opposition are back in numbers. Every time Weso charged over halfway with the ball and had the options of Sheehan breaking to the left or Fryatt peeling off to the right in the second half it looked like we would score. It was fantastic to watch. Decent performance defensively, will just pick out a few individuals for illustration. Hume really was appalling. Got into a couple of great positions down the right in the first half and wasted any opportunity he had to make something happen, then second half his head went completely and you could tell his confidence was shot. Deserves some credit for helping to make the goal with a great pinpoint pass but he was lucky to still be on the pitch after the performance he put in. Wasted one fantastic chance second half when put clear just to the left of goal. Okay, that's enough of that. Sheehan today was excellent. I've criticised him enough in the past and the flaws were still there again but to accentuate the positive, there is a real air of expectation when he is afforded time and space to pick a pass or cross out. One stinging shot when given the freedom of the city to shoot was inch-perfect, I was right behind it and he couldn't have placed it any better or hit it any harder but somehow the keeper got to it. Played quite a few excellent balls from deep which set up our counter-attacking style and it was no coincidence that all our good play came from the left, in the first half particularly. Conditions were difficult second half but he still looked a threat. I just wish he was quicker. Kenton came on and had an absolute stormer at right-back, crunching into tackles all over the place and nullifying the threat down their left side brilliantly. Personally I thought we looked shaky at the back early on - Kisnorbo and McAuley looked hesitant against the pace of Byfield and trickery of Trundle. Kenton really made a difference in making sure we became more solid and I think as the game wore on Mattock grew in confidence due to the performances of those around him. Last but not least, another player I have criticised a lot over the past 18 months, Matty Fryatt - far and away the man of the match today. Turned their centre-backs inside out all game. In the inside-left position first half he continually ran directly for goal and posed a real threat. Second half he altered his game and held the ball up with his back to goal as well and fed team-mates into play perfectly. Took his goal like a true marksman and you could see he enjoyed it as much as we all did. I assumed the sending-off was clear cut by the way the referee was in close proximity and reached straight for the red card but didn't have a great view of it so will wait for the television highlights to judge the decision. It was such a shame that it had to be him because that was probably the best I've ever seen him play. We had glimpses of this kind of performance from him at Fulham and Colchester last season but this was something else. A pleasure to watch.
Bert Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 Couldn't agree more Fez. The only downside of Sheehan's performance today was, i thought he slowed us down a few times when we were on a break.

Yeah it is a shame but I think he tried to hit his crossfield passes earlier today than usual. He hasn't got the pace to beat opposition defenders so he needs to make the most of his strengths. It worked well today with Fryatt on form collecting most of his passes but it remains to be seen how it would work most of the time. One good thing when you've got Mattock and Sheehan in the same side is that when Sheehan gets closed down trying to put a cross in, he can go back to Mattock who has an excellent delivery himself.
Maybes Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 I loved our second goal. More to the point I love matty fryatt.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 I loved our second goal. More to the point I love matty fryatt. That was one of those goals where, towards the end of the move, you're thinking "this would be a quality goal if we could score here" - and the finish was brilliant.

Oh yes! The whole away sent into raptures and then bert waving his crutches about with not a care or thought about health and safety. Typical. On a side point. The stewards were fantastic today. I didnt any of them asking people to sit. Makes a change
boneman Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 There is no greater satisfaction than texting a mate at all hours of the morning the Leicester City results, especially when he is a Bristol City Muppett and we have just done them over 2-0 AWAY ! Being an Ausfox...I had that pleasure this morning! I was confident that we would turn up today, especially with Holloway at the helm but did not expect a display of that magnitude. I'm very much looking forward to Cardiff and a packed house

Didn't even tell me to stop standing on my chair (when we went 2-0 up)

Didn't even know what was being shouted!
Durnerz Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 Yep, was in the Foxestalk Mixer, saw what appeared to be LD3 get squashed in the makeshift mosh pit that occured at Fryatts goal Chloe, nice to see you by the way

Thracian Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 brilliant, when i saw what team he was playing i was thrilled, back to 4 4 2 with hume on the wing, no n'gotty and playing both mattock and sheean down the left hand side GREAT!!! I was pleased Mattock and Sheehan cogged so well. I'd been a bit concerned about having two inexperienced players on the same flank but they'd shown they could complement each other pre-season and it's encouraging to hear they coped so well at Bristol. It was the first time Mattock has started a League game we've won this season so that's a monkey off his back that I'm glad about.

What? so they go down the wing saying how nice each other's hair looks? Amazing that they find the time.
Scow Posted 25 November 2007 Posted 25 November 2007 What? so they go down the wing saying how nice each other's hair looks?Amazing that they find the time. Stearman saves half the time by complimenting himself.
