What was everyones views on Clemence? He seems to be getting decent marks, but on the radio im not sure i heard his name mentioned more than once.

Perhaps thats when hes at his best, quiet but effective?!

He made a few runs forward 1st half and was unlucky not to get a decent chance come his way. He was just his usual self in my opinion very few stray passes and a good calming influence 2nd half when it was 1-0 and BC were on top.

Sunday Times gave Hume MotM lol

Ian Holloway off to flyer

Bristol City 0 Leicester 2

Paul Rowan at Ashton Gate

’Ive always tweaked the nose of fear and put an ice-cream down the vest of terror.â€

Ian Holloway was losing his voice yesterday evening but that still didn’t stop him delivering one of his famous one-liners as he embarked on a lengthy defence of his decision to leave Plymouth Argyle and join Leicester City in the face of extreme hostility down in the west country. In the process he veered between Del Boy and Richard the Third but there was no doubting his passion.

“My dad told me years ago, crash through the front door, son, and show the world who you are. And if they throw you back out the same way then great. The game, the business, stinks sometimes, but I don’t.â€

Nor did his players yesterday, who responded to the arrival of their sixth manager in eight months with a spirited and intelligent performance that bodes well for the future under their new man. Goals from Richard Stearman and Matt Fryatt completed what appeared to be a perfect afternoon for the visitors, until Fryatt was dismissed just before the end for an apparent elbow on Liam Fontaine.

Holloway, a former Bristol Rovers player and manager, made a typically flamboyant entry onto enemy territory, hugging a City mascot and applauding the crowd.

The City supporters, who recognise and respect the achievements of their fellow Bristolian, responded with a warm round of applause. Holloway was also heartily welcomed by the Leicester City fans who were quickly chanting “Ollie Mourinho†and though he still might have preferred to have been lapping up the applause at the Walkers Stadium, his players were quite happy to be on the road. The Foxes poor home form has had their supporters seething, but away they went into yesterday’s game with just one away defeat in seven games. Yesterday they kept it tight, conceding most of the possession early on, and they still deserved to go into the interval with a one-goal lead.

Bristol City did have early chances through Lee Trundle and Darren Byfield, but Leicester were always threatening on the break and on 22 minutes they took the lead with what was a simple if sloppy goal.

An inswinging free kick from Alan Sheehan on the right was cleared only as far as Stearman, who knew little as the ball appeared to bounce off the back of his head. The ball fell at his feet and he then poked it past a static Adriano Basso and into the net.

The Bristol City manager, Gary Johnson, brought on Ivan Sproule shortly after the break to replace the right-back Skuse and add some pace to the attack. The Northern Ireland international is still erratic however and on 61 minutes he appeared to mishit his shot when presented with a decent opportunity on the edge of the box. The ball ended up at the feet of the alert Byfield near the penalty spot and his instant shot brought another good save from Fulop.

However, if anybody looked like getting the second goal it was the visitors thanks to the ability of players such as Iain Hume to make good use of whatever ball came their way. Hume was working well with Fryatt and the two should have contrived to stretch the lead further on 66 minutes. Picking the ball up with his back to goal on the edge of the opposition penalty area, Fryatt played the ball wide for the rapidly advancing Sheehan who took possession in his stride and forced Basso into a sharp save diving to his right. The ball fell to Hume who shot over when he would have expected to score.

Leicester were to make no mistake the next time, Fryatt playing a sharp one-two with Hume on the edge of the box and then finishing sharply as Basso approached. The Leicester striker was then sent off for his challenge on Fontaine, though it appeared a strange decision.

“The opposition on the day were stronger in all areas,†Johnson said afterwards. “When we went one nil down the crowd went very quiet, but the players were definitely not giving enough for the supporters to get behind them.†Crazily, Leicester have another Championship game tomorrow night, against Cardiff City – Holloway will be hoping that the buzz hasn’t gone away by then.

Fulop 7 - Caught out by one cross but to no real cost, safe hands.

Mattock 7 - Grew better as the game wore on, showed maturity.

Mcauley 7 - Won everything in the air but looked stretched when the ball was played in behind him.

Kisnorbo 8 - Confident in the air and on the floor, brilliant performance and good teamwork from the centre pairing.

Stearman 7 - Took his goal well and gave an assured performance that will do his confidence good.

Sheehan 6 - Deliveries were varied but held his position well and offered support in attack.

Clemence 7 - Did the simple things well and held the middle together well in conjunction with Wesolowski.

Wesolowski 8 - Amazing work rate, was here there and everywhere, offering what we needed so much, a central midfielder running at the back 4 with the ball and picking the right gaps.

Hume 5 - One of his off days, could tell he'd been out for a little while, touch was off but work rate was decent, and of course the assist for the goal yet should have easily had one himself.

John 4 - Nothing to write home about.

Fryatt 9 - Touch of class, finishing was spot on and his vision and passes were brilliant all afternoon, deserved his goal but not the red, unlucky.

Subs:

Kenton 7 - Slotted in at right back very well and despite a comical miskick, went on to put in some vital tackles and held his position well.

N'gotty 6 - Good move by Holloway to bring on an experienced centre back to help see the game out, didn't disappoint.

I know. I don't love the bloke but today he was immense. Ran their defence ragged, turned their centre-backs inside out all game and was a constant threat. Held the ball up well, particularly in tight spaces and had to deal with two completely ineffectual strike partners, linkup for the second goal aside.

One of the best performances I've seen from a Leicester striker for years.

I've noticed he perks up when there's a new manager, emphasing, of course, that he does have ability.

I wonder he ends up just getting ground down by the the defensive overload in the end and that perhaps there will be more hope for him if Holloway continues to go with a balanced side and approach as this seemed to be.

Looking at the ratings of people who I'm convinced were there it seemed a pretty good all-round team performance with players mostly being able to play to their strengths.

Good to see the marks for Fulop. If you'd listened to Barber you'd have thought he was at a different game.

Fulop 8- Just sign him please.

Stearman 7.5- Nice to be able to give him a rating above a 5 for once. Played well.

Kisnorbo 7- Solid

McAuley 7- Solid

Mattock 7- Also solid, nothing special but played well

Hume 6- Poor game for his standards, although he did link up with Fryatt well for the goal

Weso 8.5- Tenacious, Commited, Superb

Clemence 6.5- Quiet game, did nothing of particular note.

Sheehan 7- Nice game on the left wing, always a threat with set-pieces

Fryatt 8.5- Not his biggest fan, but what a game he had. He was brilliant. Would have got a 9 but for his stupidity at the end.

John 6- Didn't play enough of a part

Subs: Kenton 8- Magnificent game at right back, he was a rock

You had to get that in didn't you? :P

I don't think anyone's ever doubted his ability, just his in-ability to show he has it.
