Lineker's Left Foot

Is this the worst City team you've ever seen?

Pleat's team was by far the worst---------------a midfield of midgets

...as opposed to the giants in the current squad who are Newton, Hume, Weso and Porter...

At least the Pleat side could always score goals and had a half-decent home record - features that Holloway would kill for.

You ARE joking !!

Pleat nearly took us down to the old THIRD division for the first time in our history ------------we only stayed up on the last day of the season thanks to his sucessor Gordon Lee !!

Pleat may have been a disaster for this club but surely his team had better players than the current bunch of overpaid pillocks.

I remember the day well - never thought I'd have to relive it again.

But we've come close during the past three seasons, and the way things are going at the moment, we could get even closer this season!

There's no-one of the calibre of Steve Walsh, Gary Mills, Tommy Wright or David Kelly among the current squad..

I think if you replaced the word Calibre with stature you have a point...

We have no player bar Hume (Fulop doesnt count cause he isnt ours!!) that the fans adore and would trust with this clubs future..

Walsh - City through and through in todays squad only Hume IMO would come close to his bravery and commitment

Mills - classy RB who won the European Cup with Forest.. Cant argue on the calibre phrase here.. no one in the current squad comes close.

Wright - I think for flair and creativity Hume again can be likened to Ooh Tommy.

Kelly - Tough one, Potentially Fryatt could be as good as Kelly (again IMO) the way he linked up with Hume at Bristol City

proved this, but the lad needs consistency..

But as I said, in stature at the club the team of the 90's are held in higher regard because of the way they dragged themselves out of it against Oxford and the way we improved immediately under Little the following year..

It's going to be interesting to see the effect Holloway has on Fryatt.

Sometimes people can have an extraordinary effect on footballers and thee's no question Holloway is the motivating type.

Fryatt has been an enigma at Leicester good, bad and all things in the middle.

But even allowing for Holloway's natural bullshit there's little doubt that he rates Fryatt as indicated from his admission that he'd wanted to sign him.

Knowing the manager believes in you can be a big boost and just maybe Fryatt will find the focus and consistency needed to be a wortwhile Championship striker.

I live in hope. I still feel Fryatt lacks the pace, strength, sharpness, range of shooting to be an outstanding striker above Division One level but, now he's fit, I do find that every time he starts to frustrate me again he comes up with something useful.

Three goals so far (two in the League) is not enough but he should benefit from the greater emphasis on attack which Holloway is supposedly going to take.

I shall watch with interest. Holloway's influence could quite possibly be pivotal in his career and if he cannot be successful under a man with so much faith in him, it is hard to see how he'd do better anywhere else.

If Fryatt has half the career Kelly did, he'll have done well for himself.

Holloway clearly has faith in him. It's now time for that faith to be repaid - starting tonight at Ipswich.

This year has been by far the worst. Look at the games against Southampton, Sheff Utd, Burnley etc. We never ever played that awful under Levein.

Oh but we did. Dire games against Forest, Burnley (them AGAIN!) and Norwich spring to mind..
