Lineker's Left Foot Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 In all of your own experiences, some longer than others of course, is this the worst City team you've seen. My experiences date back to 1987 and I have to say that this team competes with that one, which was pretty bad. Even worse than The Great Escape of 1991. The difference being that in the late 80s and the 1991 season, there were passionate players and skilful ones I could relate too e.g. Walshy and Tommy Wright respectively as well as quality like Mike Newell. Now, I just think THIS is the worst team ever and it is so frustrating. It has to get better
davieG Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 THe last 3/4 years have all been on a par, the league tables tell us that.
The Stig Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 No, IMO last years were slightly worse and under Craig Levien we were pretty bad.
Hullfox Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 In all of your own experiences, some longer than others of course, is this the worst City team you've seen. You should have tried watching McClintock's team
Leicester's 12th Man Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 No Followed City since 1996/97 I would say under Craig Levein is the worst I have seen us, dreadful Since we came down from the Prem (2nd time) we have roughly been equal. We now have money though so it could be considered the worst City team with money.
Sparky Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 in my view this current squad is the worst in the time i been watching city (86 onwards)
Head Honcho Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 Mclintock and Pleat's teams will take some beating but this past three years have been the most disappointing for me. Pleat's team was just not good enough and Mclintock was out of his depth but this team have got a good game in them and can at times play just not on a regular basis.
davieG Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 You should have tried watching McClintock's team Wren't they in the old 1st Division though?
Manwell Pablo Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 In seasons terms, I'd be pretty hard pushed to pick a winner, the last four years have all been pretty bad. This is definatley the most disapointing, I didn't have any great hopes in August or ideas of promotion but I thought we'd be doing much better than this, this is just a repeat of the previous three seasons only differnece being we've spent a shed load of money (on shit).
WetFlannel Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 Last season was shocking... definately alot worst than this season as we didnt know where we were going, apart from down
Jack Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 The Levein years and last season was one of the worst and bar our cup run, this year has to be up there aswell. We have got money, something we haven't had for the last few years and we haven't done anything with it. Milan has made some bad decisons and this season so far has to be put down as a dissapointment.
nickm Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 You should have tried watching McClintock's team i've got to agree there, mclintock just shipped in a load of crap old men and they had to be seen to be believed-anyone remember geordie armstrong, sure he was one of mclintocks
davieG Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 Last season was shocking... definately alot worst than this season as we didnt know where we were going, apart from down Value you for money wise this is worse, we're in the same league position with the same inability to score and yet we're paying more on the promise of better quality players and a real chance to push up the League; last year my expectations were hardly greater than our achievemets - this year I feel like I've been mugged. As for Levein at least he had the excuse that his team was decimated in terms of financial value where as this one has been strengthed not only in transfer fee terms but also salary levels. That said I think yes this is the worse!
Head Honcho Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 Wren't they in the old 1st Division though? Correct, but have a look at some of the pastings we took that season-pretty much like Derby this http://www.soccerbase.com/results2.sd The players at McLintock's disposal weren't that bad though! As I said he was just out of his depth. I must have seen about 75% of the games in 77/78 and quite honestly it was depressing

Ultra Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 i've got to agree there, mclintock just shipped in a load of crap old men and they had to be seen to be believed-anyone remember geordie armstrong, sure he was one of mclintocks I remember him - a quality player in his time at the gooners, but well past it by the time he joined us. McLintock at least had some decent players in his squad (Wallington, Whitworth and some youngsters) and was competing in the top flight. So his side would probably just shade it over the current bunch.

As I said he was just out of his depth. I must have seen about 75% of the games in 77/78 and quite honestly it was depressing I would have seen them myself but this is when an ageing memory has it's benefits . Even so bottom of the top league compared to near bottom of this League and playing shoite to boot - no contest this has got to be worse!
davieG Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 at least we know we are financially stable, and have funds to splash out in january... it isnt over yet but its obviously more promising than last season I see nothing too promising at the moment, any improvement is based on shifting out some dross, which we couldn't achieve in the summer and getting in better players - no mean achievement at the best of times and with our potential to drop into the bottom 3 increasing by every game 'promise' is not something I'm prepared to hang onto. As for being financially stable there is no evidence that that is the case, it's seems like it's all dependant on us getting promoted if we don't I envisage we'll be in a worse state than we were before MM 's buyout. Promotion looks way way off in the future to me!

Geo V Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 As the question was about the worst team, I`d probably say it is. I have sat through some right rank teams that included some horror individual players but somehow we always had decent players like Tommy Wright stuck on the right wing, Ally Mauchlen steaming in, Paul Ramsey running about the midfield and generally although individually they werent worth a great deal they always looked like a team. This lot are much better individually and have some great qualities but as a unit we haven't seen much evidence of a cohesive unit and despite individual prowess are poor as a team.
demon_dog Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 No. Have been watching City since 1967. Pleats team were the worst but this unenviable record now in my opinion goes to Craig Levein.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 Watching since 93 and i reckon its the Levein team. Kelly team was shocking but most of them where Levein players.
davieG Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 do you have any optimism??! 2 points off the bottom 3, 3 difficult away games to come, deja vu at every turn - At this precise moment not a lot!
