Lets Be having You Posted 9 December 2007 Posted 9 December 2007 Correct, but have a look at some of the pastings we took that season-pretty much like Derby this http://www.soccerbase.com/results2.sd The players at McLintock's disposal weren't that bad though! As I said he was just out of his depth. I must have seen about 75% of the games in 77/78 and quite honestly it was depressing Depressing is not word, dire dire and i saw them all, after jb it was so fooking dire
Ultra Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 But to be honest, the Bloomfield side was in rapid decline and needed a lot of rebuilding. Unfortunately the board messed up bigtime by giving the job to someone with zero managerial experience.
Thracian Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 Fortunately I was working abroad during the McLintock era but it was a depressing period and there were other low times but I'm in no way convinced this season's Championship is particularly strong yet we are, once again, in far more danger of dropping into the bottom three than climbing even to the relative safety of mid-table. To be part of the dregs of a modest League is about as low as it's ever been for Leicester and there's good reason. Our leadership, in the main, has been inexcusable for a long time and an almost unbroken succession of iffy managers have all contributed to our present predicament. Levein admitted to his mistakes, Kelly turned defensive overload and unambitious team-selection into a soap opera, Martin Allen had the charisma to succeed but not the brains to keep people who mattered on his side, Megson was arguably okay but his approach hardly lifted spirits more than marginally and Holloway's bizarre nine-defenders at Burnley followed by 4-5-1 at home has only served to register relegation form. Mostly though our much-acclaimed leader, Milan Mandaric, has presided over a succession of totally weird and inexplicable signings which have together created a massive fault in our footballing superstructure, a fault which has been regularly and emphatically exposed of late by our injury and suspension problems. It was Mandaric who presided over the appointment of one manager who was seen to be totally unsuitable for unspecified reasons, another who's heart was never or only very briefly in the club and now a guy who promises much but has so far failed to get even as much from our current players as others. Holloway has shed our team of its most likely and in-form source of goals, has tried to work a new system with the wrong or makeshift components, has refused to play an attacking central midfield player from the off in recent games and has, like Kelly, started matches with his side overloaded with harrassers and defenders. The combined result of all this is a team which looks collectively disjointed, which has no pattern, no imagination, no collective movement, no off-the-ball movement, virtually no threat, no speed and insufficient numbers driving forward for anything more than brief periods. For so many reasons it is the worst team I've seen in City shirts but by no means the worst players as certain results have demonstrated. We haven't got two players for every position as I said we needed pre-season, in fact we haven't got any players for certain positions. And, as a result, we have never had any chance of scoring the goals we need to lift confidence and make us successful and I warned many times that this would be the case. The problems have been identified. They are clear for all to see. What's lacking is the single-minded determination to put all of them right. That doesn't require clever media soundbites. It requires the objectivity of someone who knows precisely what they're doing and how they're going to achieve it. I've already mentioned the changes that are necessary. But first is a need to field all our most effective players from the off.
Aixelsyd Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 my memory is fading a bit now a days but I recall that 1977 to 79 wasn't a very pretty era but I remained hopefully and engaged. I actually can't remember being this Un-motivated before Sad but true
FilboFox Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 No... I think that Peter Taylor's team eventually became awful and could have been relegated from the Championship... Adams saved us thank God.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 Last seasons team seemed a hell of a lot shiter
Wycombe Fox Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 You should have tried watching McClintock's team That was by far the worst time at City that I can remember too Hullfox. We were so so bad under McLintock. We were like a cross between Dad's Army, Benny Hill and the Keystone Cops!
Fat Ron Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 For the enthusiasm and expectations at the beginning of the season, this has to be the most dissapointing...
Zingari Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 You should have tried watching McClintock's team yes they were indeed shockingly bad ; i remember billy hughes throwing up on the pitch ;(either through his behaviour the night before or general unfitness ) but as has been pointed out in the thread it was a div. higher (but who knows how they would have fared in the old second division)
Thracian Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 Last seasons team seemed a hell of a lot shiter Everyone was aware that Kelly had no money but the present offerings are made worse by the investment made in the team and the high hopes that were generated by the MM bandwagon. Briefly I believe the team did show signs of improvement under Martin Allen, not just in the Watford match but right from the start with the chances we created against Blackpool. Gary Megson got them organised and focused too though his style was enough to frighten some fans away from football forever. But the team has remained almost constantly unexciting to watch. I cannot remember a Leicester side creating so little for so long. To go for such lengthy periods in so many matches without a serious shot or without any moves that slice through the opposition defence is a first in my memory. Nor can I recall a side that was so lacking in so many aspects of what I consider to be the normal requirements for a good professional football team. As for taking out the one guy who does create an air of expectation, talk about an own goal. It's like we've got a death wish.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 It's certainly the dullest. So many draws, hardly any wins, not many goals conceded, and even fewer scored. It's no wonder I'm so bleeding bored with the whole thing
Dr The Singh Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 And to think I was going to buy a season ticket!!!
SamL Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 We're definatly not playing to our full potential. Compared to last seasons team we are a hell of a lot better although it may not seem like it. We've been underachieving for the past 4 seasons. On paper this years side is better than last years but in terms of performances we're not. And to think I was going to buy a season ticket!!! I did buy a season ticket. I still look forward to going every week even if the entertainment value isn't there.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 I did buy a season ticket. I still look forward to going every week even if the entertainment value isn't there. Me too. It's only when I've taken my seat that I tend to remember how crap it all is
bigboy Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 The last 3 years have been the worst. This Club is going nowhere at the moment. Olly must be given something no other manager has been given in the last 3 years REAL MONEY!!!! I have been supprting the City since 1957 (50 years) so I think I should know.
Hullfox Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 I have been supprting the City since 1957 (50 years) so I think I should know. I reckon your memory could be called into question at your age though.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 We didn't field nine defenders against Burnley FFS.
Hullfox Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 We didn't field nine defenders against Burnley FFS. Oh yes we did. Kelly did last season too. Megson would have as would Worthington.
Thracian Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 Oh yes we did. Kelly did last season too.Megson would have as would Worthington. Only nine! Sometimes, the way Kelly played, I could have sworn it was 10.
MPH Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 In all of your own experiences, some longer than others of course, is this the worst City team you've seen.My experiences date back to 1987 and I have to say that this team competes with that one, which was pretty bad. Even worse than The Great Escape of 1991. The difference being that in the late 80s and the 1991 season, there were passionate players and skilful ones I could relate too e.g. Walshy and Tommy Wright respectively as well as quality like Mike Newell. Now, I just think THIS is the worst team ever and it is so frustrating. It has to get better No The results might be as poor as the last few years but the players are not. last few years i feel as if the team have played to their potential. Right now, the team isnt doing so.
LeeCovFox Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 Been watching since 1993, ever since David Speedies winner against Forest at Filbo. This for me has to be the worst team i've seen, because i thin the pesonnel available could be doing so much better. I have to agree thought that I think had Peter Taylor stayed his team could well have been relegated from this division.
Fox You Forest Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 NoFollowed City since 1996/97 I would say under Craig Levein is the worst I have seen us, dreadful Since we came down from the Prem (2nd time) we have roughly been equal. We now have money though so it could be considered the worst City team with money. I Totally agree with all of the above.
DB11 Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 No. Last seasons (or the seasons before?) Either of them two
Leicester-Sam Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 This is the worst, at least Levein has some sense of tactcal knowledge and Kelly was an honest straighforwad bloke. In January we'll have some more mismtached country bumpkins from Plymouth, goody-goody
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 Pleat's team was by far the worst---------------a midfield of midgets----------including the late Shag-gers manager Billy Davies------what a waste of space he was !!!!!
