davieG Posted 18 December 2007 Posted 18 December 2007 Taggart "delighted" to take next step in his education by Andy Mann Gerry Taggart takes charge of Leicester City's reserve team for the first time today describing the role as part of his coaching education. Taggart has been appointed reserve team manager and takes the second string to Nottingham Forest for a Pontin's Central Division game at the City Ground (2.0). And Taggart admitted he was delighted to be involved at City under new boss Ian Holloway. “I am very happy with the role,†he said. “I had a chat with Ollie and told him he had my 100 per cent backing. “Coming back as a coach to Leicester is a big learning curve and that's what I am going to do. “I am going to develop my own style with the reserves and hopefully that will keep me in good stead for the future. “I am here to learn. I put the hours in and will do what I am told. “Every time I am involved in something, I am learning all the time.†The City side is expected to include the likes of Sergio Hellings, Alan Maybury and Shaun Newton from the first-team squad, as well as some of the Academy youngsters. Forest, meanwhile, are unbeaten in the Pontin's Central League and head the division. They are set to include Taggart's former City team-mate Neil Lennon in their line-up. Taggart said: “Hopefully we will be a good little team together in the reserves. I'm looking forward to it. “I'll have Steve Beaglehole, who is a great coach, he will be helping me.†It is Taggart's latest in a series of posts since he returned to the club three months ago. He had been first-team coach under former manager Gary Megson and was then assistant caretaker alongside Frank Burrows when Megson departed for Bolton. “Things happen and sometimes you are thrown into situations and it's a case of sink or swim,†he said. “That's what happened with Frank Burrows and myself. No-one wanted that, least of all me. “I had only been back at Leicester for less than two months and we were thrown in. You can either do your best or say no.â€

I'm a bit surprised he's been made senior to Beaglehole in the set-up but, presumably, the club see him as a manager in the making and I'll look forward to seeing the sort of football he delivers and the sorts of decisions he makes.

Pity Steve Walsh doesn't have the same attitude instead of criticising those more qualified on him on Radio Leicester every Saturday..

Cheese Me Posted 18 December 2007 Posted 18 December 2007 Congratulations to Taggs. Good luck, hope you get the best of them and develop some of our young talent to come through and replace some of the dross.
Asha Posted 18 December 2007 Posted 18 December 2007 Congratulations to Taggs. Good luck, hope you get the best of them and develop some of our young talent to come through and replace some of the dross. Seconded.
Scow Posted 18 December 2007 Posted 18 December 2007 He loves 5-4-1. You'll be in for a thriller, Thracian.
Father Ted Posted 18 December 2007 Posted 18 December 2007 Good Luck to Taggs, he's working hard for it and it won't be long until he's England manager

mbd123 Posted 19 December 2007 Posted 19 December 2007 Four-nil down at Forest, and a real tanking, is hardly the perfect start. I was at the game yesterday, they where too powerful for us, but you can expect that with players like Lenny, Wes Morgan and Scott Dobey in their team. We didn't look like a team just like the first team, but there was a couple of good cameo's Chambers showed a bit of pace, the right back Luke O'Niel didn't look bad and Hayes did ok. In general we where light weight , also Nielson did a bit of flapping.
TrickyTrev Posted 19 December 2007 Posted 19 December 2007 Is this Holloway's way of diplomaticly removing Gerry from first team affairs?
