Fez of Mahrez Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 In total, the bottom five in the Premiership have played 50 away games this season and none of them have won a single one. If this is the way the Premiership is heading then I'm not particularly bothered about us getting there any time soon. Say those teams take an average of 1,500 fans on each trip, that means there have been 75,000 away journeys made this season in the Premiership by those teams' fans and not one of them has seen a win on any of those trips, many of them for the likes of Sunderland and Fulham travelling to the other end of the country on a regular basis. In total, the bottom four in the Championship have played 50 away games this season and between them they have won 10 of those games. The top five in the Premiership have lost just one game between them so far this season at home - when Manchester United beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield. In contrast, Watford are second in the Championship despite having lost as many games as they've won at home (five). I think we're going to get beaten by QPR on Tuesday but I've got more hope than some of the poor bastards following Derby, Sunderland, Fulham, Wigan and Bolton must have every other week.
Simi Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 Nice little post there Fez. It's certainly no fun following your team the length and breadth of the country to see them get battered every week. I like the away days in this league. You have a mixture of nice grounds with good facilities like, Charlton or Wolves. Then the grounds tat have some character about them like S****horpe and Colchester, albeit they're getting a new ground soon. On the other side of the coin, if we were to get promoted we would only have one of them so to speak. I know grounds like Anfield have character but it's not the same when you're getting beat 6-0. I'm really not sure what sort of attendances we'd take away with us either, we probably wouldn't take more than 2,000 most places, which would be a huge disappointment. Plus most of our fans would probably just be there sight seeing. Then you have the astronomical ticket pricing which is ridiculous in the Premiership. Promise land? Bollocks.

davieG Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 The last time I said something along those lines I was considered mad. For me I'd happily settle for some entertaining, winning football in the top half of this league, even with MMs ownership I just don't think this club has it in itself to sustain a Premiership position. Sure it would be great getting promoted but not only do I believe we would be regularly beaten but we'd lose a core of supporters by being priced out, I know I wouldn't be able to afford those silly prices. No doubt those priced out would be replaced by the 10k that where with us the last time we were up there so the club would be happy but I personally can no longer see the attraction, I really hope that either the bubble bursts or that the top 4 bugger of to some Euro League and leave the rest of us to enjoy a more level playing field.
Joe. Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 I only go away games to play the football name game I need in on this soon when there's a spare seat going.

dandannieldanok Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 Sorry but I'd rather be going to Old Trafford, Emirates e.t.c. than being stuck down here going to S****horpe and Colchester. Yes these grounds have character and many in the premiership are soulless but I think all those who went to Chelsea this season would testify it was the best game they had been to this season and probably in about 4 years. Derby fans may not go with any hope whatsoever and I'm sure being beat heavily hurts but the experience and somewhat glory of going to these arenas and playing the very best obviously has it's attractions to those that make the trips every week. To be honest, I'd rather go to Old Trafford and see us lose 4-1 (like Derby did) than go to somewhere like Hull and lose, or go to S****horpe and draw 0-0, or go to Colchester and draw 1-1 like City have done.

Sorry but I cannot even slightly agree with this post. I take it you mean spending what? £50 match ticket, £30 odd travel, £20 on the day so near enough £100, compared to colchester and s****horpe where I've paid less than £20 for each this season and at both had good atmsopheres and days out. Yes chelsea was good, amazing infact but it was a one off, it was a cup game, with 6,500 city fans there paying £20 a ticket, usually they allocate 2-3k max and at £55 I'd love us to get promoted I really would but if we can't compete then I would see little reason in vising these "magnificent" grounds, many of which from a personal view I've already done.

This kid talks sense. In this division at least we have a fighting chance of getting a win some games. In the prem we'd stand no chance. It's brilliant going to look at these big wonderful stadiums, but that's all we would be doing.
Floating Fox Posted 30 December 2007 Posted 30 December 2007 On the SUSD message board a Newcastle fan was giving a match report where he said £38 Quid for a ticket was not bad. Fck that, says a lot about the "best league in the world".

Fck that, says a lot about the "best league in the world". The most expensive league in the world. I doubt that even the J-League would come close to that, with the Yen always that high. Just look at Germany, Spain or Italy. No wonder so many foreign players want to make it in the U.K. (whereas the opposite's a rather rare case). Money talks.
WetFlannel Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Then again, you could look at it in this way: For every away game you go to, out of the 18 you go to, theres possibly going to be a Leicester vs. Chelsea match... Its them performances you remember, and glad you were apart of, not the scrappy draws etc away to Sunderland
Anish Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Good point originally by Fez. But let's not feel too sorry for the Premiership teams that can't win away - under Levein we went almost a year without an away league win, and that was in this division! I think we had it slightly rougher!
