Simi Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 With all the talk of the Liverpool owners selling up and the amount of managerial sackings this season. It got me thinking what makes a top class Chairman. There's all types in the Premiership. George "Rafa Klinsman" Gillette who's openly admitted to speaking to other managers about replacing his existing one. Although without him they'd be without Torres and seemingly a new stadium. Roman "Money" Abromovich, had clashes with Mourinho but effectively bought Chelsea the title. Mike "Fan Man" Ashley, openly stands with Toon fans and gives them the manager THEY want. Steve "Back the Manager" Gibson seems to be one of the most respected chairman around for always sticking with his manager. Randy "Quiet Man" Lerner, gave O'Neill cash when he's wanted it and put Villa in the right direction. Milan "Media Whore" Mandaric. We all know about him. And finally.. Ken "Fraud" Bates So what do you think makes a good chairman? Good relationship with the fans? Faith in the manager? Someone that always wants the club in the spotlight? Someone who likes to take a backseat? Or someone that likes to run everything? Many, many more things well. I decided to leave out "Everlasting bank balance" as that's a given for good chairman now, surely. I'll go for Randy Lerner for the reasons above.
lildave3 Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 Endless money, faith in his manager, listens to others views. :dunno
Joe. Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 I think of those listed above Randy Lerner seems to tick most boxes. Backs the manager, gives him money, from what we understand doesn't get involved in team affairs. And he's pushed Villa in the right directon.
Tevez Posted 20 January 2008 Posted 20 January 2008 As a chairman myself it's key to have a good relationship with the players and the manager. If your down on money, you have to bond abit more so you get the team to all muck in. But if you've got cash, your laughing your way to the title. Regards. Tevez, 16
Ultra Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Hearts have done better under their chairman than we've done under ours. And at least they've won a trophy under him.
Bryn Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Hearts have done better under their chairman than we've done under ours. And at least they've won a trophy under him. It's hardly a fair comparison is it? For a start they were in more of a position to win trophies, being arguably the best of the rest in Scotland. Secondly, the chairman has been there a lot longer. Mandaric hasn't even done a full season yet.
WetFlannel Posted 21 January 2008 Posted 21 January 2008 Hearts have done better under their chairman than we've done under ours. And at least they've won a trophy under him. Aswell as eventually driving their best players out of the club.
