Super Arj Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 youre correct in the sense that hes the best winger he have but hes wasted down the right his goalscoring ability is what we need and he cant score goals playing on the wing i think ollie should train DJ up to be a winger so he can play there
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 14 February 2008 Author Posted 14 February 2008 Have you seen Hume on the wing? He's awful mate. He hates playing on the wing, and he is rubbish there. He is our second best striker though so should be played up top with Howard. Yeah the last 3 home games, you can't tell me he didn't provide that attacking quality v Cov, and the other games he can put a good cross in. The lad is lightning - he really stands out against other forward players like Hayles who look like they can't be bothered half the time.
clazkel Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Hume is the best crosser we have at the club at the moment imo, but he is wasted on the wing, he should be playing up front or in the middle just behind the front 2. Ollie is wasting Hume by playing him on the wing, at times Hume seems frustrated and it seems like he doesn't want to play on the wing. He doesn't seem to put as much effort in when hes on the wing, which is poor as he should be putting effort in wherever he plays, but in a way i don't blame him as he knows his abilities and he knows he should be playing up front.
Scow Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Hume is such a frustrating player. He does have talent and we've seen that on many occasions. However, his touch isn't particularly great and he gives the ball away too often. As Daggers and a few others have said, he's more suited to playing in a deeper position, behind two forwards. He isn't the sort of player to play off Howard as he doesn't have the instinct of a striker to make those runs beyond him. He is usually found a little deeper and doesn't get in the box often enough to be on the end of chances close to goal.
teblin Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 I'm not a massive hume fan, so inconsistant like the rest of the team. But we don't really have anyone much better to play on the right. (unless gradel comes back, but he is not tested at this level) In the end if we want to get out of this division(upwards) he will not be the answer, but at the moment we are trying to stay in it and hume will put 110% to make that happen.

I wouldn't say hume is lightening, he's fairly quick but not lightening.
Simi Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 I do think Hume deserves a place in the team, but as I've said before, it should not be on the right wing. He's much more suited in a role with a striker like Howard, or behind a pairing. Hume partnered Howard against Cov and that worked fine, why Ollie felt the need to mess with that is a little confusing. One thing that does worry me a little is how much Holloway seems determined to persist with 4-4-2. If he isn't happy with the Hungarians then it will only lead to more players being played out of position. Hume and Hayles on the wing, or whatever. At the moment, we're not creating enough chances, it's clear to see that. I'd be tempted to go with something like this... AlnwickStearman---McAuley---Kisnorbo---ClaphamOakley---King---ClemenceHumeHoward---DJ
hackneyfox Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Hume was far from being the the only attacking input against co*, the whole side played well and Bori and Latko ripped them to shreds. Hume is NOT an out and out striker. Hume is NOT an out and out midfielder, he rates himself too highly, when he gets the ball he just runs until he loses it or he has a shot which 3 times out of 4 is wide. I always thought he was another Alan Smith (the current one) neither one thing or the other. When he plays too play is via him meaning that eventually the opposition end up with it.

I have been saying for some weeks now that he does indeed give the ball away to often, also he seems to have an inability to look up before crossing a ball. Thus putting the ball either to the opposition or into no mans land to be chased after.
