Hume

You don't half talk some nonsense. Iain Hume has been crap out on the right wing for 90% of the time he's played there for us. He did well in the game that never happened, which was his first game out wide and other than the odd performance when the whole team plays well, he's been utter guff on the wing this season. In fact he was put out wide by Allen in his last game in charge and then Megson came in who played wing-backs so Hume played in central midfield or up front and not out wide. He's only started playing out wide again when Holloway came in and I don't recall him actually being any good out there, but he did chip in a few goals, but they may have come from either set pieces or when he played through the middle, so again not anything to do with his movement and delicousy on the wing.

The reasons for that are mainly because he's a very greedy footballer, not a natural winger and because our team doesn't look to give the ball to players outwide and therefore players playing on the wing will be absent for the majority of games. Or they come looking for the ball in the middle of the park and leave us exposed, Hume has done this on lots of occasions.

When he plays upfront he is a lot more effective, but when he plays out wide we're lucky if we see him turn up and make an impact one in every half a dozen or so matches.

His performance alongside Howard against Coventry last month was the level of football he's capable of. In his rightful position, but since that game, he's been shunted back out on the wing, even though Holloway admitted that Hume was exceptional against Cov that game alongside Howard.

Now it's simple, if Holloway doesn't rate Hume up front, then don't play him. If he does rate him then play him up front, not try and accomadate him by playing him in a position that is detrimental to the rest of the team.

If it's so simple to you and to many others, why doesn't he do that? Even Hume doesn't appear to like playing there.

Holloway's given himself a headache:

a) He's scuttled his chances of having Gradel - a genuinely dangerous and creative winger - as an alternative.

c) He signed Bori as a winger but seems to have been abandoned him, at least temporarily, for whatever reason.

d) Hume is top scorer, but as a striker rather than a winger, but Mr Square-Pegs-in-Square-Holes wants to use him so contradicts himself by playing him out of position.

e) He also wants to use his other strikers but five seniors, if you count Fryatt, won't go into two striker berths without hassle I'd imagine.

How ironic is is that we send people away we might well need given our lack of options in those departments and yet retain one more striker than we sensibly need.Doesn't Holloway appreciate that strikers need supply?
