Uncle Albert Posted 10 March 2008 Posted 10 March 2008 I seen him at the ground on Saturday pulling up with Weso, and Chambers looked pretty big. I dont think he lacks anything physically. Give him a shot with DJ i reckon cant be as bad as Howard in recent matches surely.
Ash Posted 10 March 2008 Posted 10 March 2008 played a few games a few months ago, did **** all, he isnt ready for this standard of football yet. He didnt even play 90 minutes! Came off the bench. Trouble is people now a days think if a young lad and you dont set the world a light straight away , it means your no good!Give them time! I honestly think he's good enough to atleast be on the bench. It isnt working with the players weve got , so why not change it? I think he'll be off loan soon anyway, Huddersfield has been mentioned
Head Honcho Posted 10 March 2008 Posted 10 March 2008 Yep, this is Chambers' profile from when he used to post on here.I wouldn't say "not so long" ago though, he's been inactive for two years. last active 2 years ago tomorrow

I wouldnt send him out on loan this year, if we can get to safety before the last 2 games then i can see Ollie giving him a run out at Stoke last day.

I think in a few years he will come through and become a big asset. But not yet.
Flynny Posted 10 March 2008 Posted 10 March 2008 I'm not a big fan of DJ, i've said it countless times. Whether that's clouding my judgement i'm not sure, but I wasn't that impressed with him on Saturday. He is awful in front of goal, and although I didn't go against Cardiff I have been told he missed some easy chances there. For £1.6 million, he's been average at best. I like the pace he offers us, but does he use it? Not really, very light weight on the ball, positionally quite bad and as i've said, finishing is poor.Although Howard hasn't scored that many either, about a similar rate to DJ. He has the height that none of our others strikers have and the fact this team refuses to play the ball on the deck means we'll suffer even more if Howard doesn't play, this was highlighted when he was taken off against Preston. The team didn't adapt to who was out there (Fryatt and Hayles) they just played exactly the same as they always do, get the ball and fook it straight up pitch, which is frustrating if your strikers are under 5 ft 10. Howard is as good as any proper centre forward in this league, but if you don't supply the crosses for him then he'll have minimal impact. Likewise DJ will have minimal impact unless you give him through balls to run on to. But DJ has been poor in front of goal in the past few games and I don't see what else he offers us right now. The number of crosses Etuhu and others supplied for Howard was one of the features of Saturday's game and Howard only really attacked one of them as I can recall. Most times he looked like I feel - as if his legs have totally lost their spring.I've got some excuse in that I'm nearly 60 and suffering from what seems to be permanent bruising of my achilles tendon but I can't imagine that having no leap that I've seen is ever going to be much good for a centre-forward. From what I can see it's now standard practise to have people stand by a big striker to stop them getting any power with their headers while, when possible, holding the line fairly high and preventing the striker getting near enough to goal to be dangerous Given that situation continuing I cannot see why Howard would present a great deal of danger. Saved me a job. We had tons of crosses. Howard's not winning as many headers as he should and when he does they're looping or glancing. DJ had very few clear cut chances because he was usually putting other people through.
Nationwider Posted 10 March 2008 Posted 10 March 2008 I think if Olly's going to clutch at straws and select an untried player, picking a player that's just scored five in a game is as good a reason as any. In keeping with the approach to date, he's more likely to try to get John Hartson on a short-term loan.
FilboFox Posted 11 March 2008 Posted 11 March 2008 What utter crap. DJ's the player making most of our chances at the minute, and apart from being a man-mountain who can produce the odd looping header Howard's done fuck all. Are you seriously saying after Saturday that you'd keep Howard, who missed most of our chances, and drop DJ, who made most of them?Think it through. I TOTALLY agree. Start with DJ and Fryatt up front (Hume on the wing! ) and keep Hayles on the bench... HE could then come on and trouble the defenses as he seems to be fairly energetic when he gets going and when he comes on, it'll be to help us save/win matches.

You're right and it's hard to imagine how Billy McKay would fare coming off the bench for the first team anyway. I jokingly said to a friend of his that he'll be a great prospect when they give him some proper breakfasts. But appearances can be deceptive. McKay has never let anyone down in the three years I've watched him. He's an intelligent and selfless footballer with VW-type engine that never seems to wear down. Of all City's players he must be one of the easiest to play alongside. He's nippy, has a good temperament, chases every lost cause like its the last but has a pretty ruthless eye for goal as his consistent scoring record testifies. I've not seen him play alongside our main first team strikers but, like Andy King, he seems to cog in particularly well with Matty Fryatt. McKay's movement is a constant menace. He makes these swift and shallow runs across the back of defences a lot like DJ and he rarely gives defenders a break. He's certainly not a threat in the air and whether he's got the physcial strength to cope with senior football yet I don't know. It's a year or two early yet in all probability but I'd trust him enough for a subs place in present circumstances. He fits my criteria. He plays the game simply and quickly but, like Beswick and Kingy he's another who's forever trying to make something happen whether with a snap shot or a clever one-two. Needs intelligent players and good movers around him.
