I know this sounds drastic and probably not the most sensible of ideas, but we need a goal scorer and fast. We have had in excess of 35 chances against Cardiff & Bristol City and we've scored only one goal thanks to a bizarre own goal. It's disgusting. Some of the sitters we are missing, just highlights the level of desperationw e find ourselves in yet again.

Last season, Iain Hume showed that when the pressure is on, he's a nuisance to his own team due to him trying to bail us out of the shit all by himself. Leading to him trying to take on 5 men and scoring from all angles. On saturday he couldn't even finish from inside the box, unmarked with only the goalie to beat. That is worrying. He's also got the hump because he's been played out of position for most of Holloway's tenure and his mindset is screwed. Drop him.

DJ Campbell, good lord, if he could only make use of his pace and be able to finish. But he can't, well not for us anyway. He's another massively off form and in this battle, can we rely on him? Nope. Drop him to the bench and hope he can give us something in the last 20 mins when defences are a little more tired.

Fryatt's not a natural finisher. I hold my hands up and apologise for believing it when he arrived here and looked the part. He misses sitters, his 2 yard header away at QPR being the pinnacle of his portfolio of sitters. His lack of pace is also a massive factor in being useless for a team as shite and un-imaginative as us. Drop him... again.

Barry Hayles, horrible to watch, but can finish if need be. Can't bare to watch him play a full 90 alongside Howard, but he might have to step up to the plate and help us in the next 10 games. I'm not ruling out a Bazza Bonanza, but it's probably more blind hope than a fair prediction.

Steve Howard, our best striker. Been guilty of some horrendous misses himself but he will score for us, I know he will. He has to play and we have to get crosses on to his nugget. Also get the ball played to his feet with his back to goal so that Etuhu, Hendrie & Oakley can all join in on the carnival.

That leaves us needing another striker. Ashley Chambers. We need pace, he's got it, we need a player playing without fear, he's got that too. We need a finisher, the boy can score, we need an unknown quantity for the opposition to worry about, he's got that alright.

Chambers is rapid, alongside Howard he could win us a few matches. I know he's only just turned 18 and when teams are in the mire, relying on a youngster is ridiculous, but so what? Teams have been bailed out before by kids, and we need someone or something quickly.

Come on everyone, join the Chambers In Bandwagon.

Just won't happen Ric. He'll be off to Dallas all being well and he's not really done anything noteworthy for a while.

Billy McKay's the striker in form with five out of five for the Academy at Norwich Saturday but I don't see Holloway thinking he'll be an answer though he's a talented, aware, energetic and mobile footballer and possibly worth a place on the bench.

Somehow though we have to increase our firepower through the team and that may well mean adapting the system.

By all accounts McKay wasn't that impressive at Hinckley, but then again they are dog mess like ourselves in our respective leagues.

He looked back to decent form with the Reserves before his loan and seemed to form a goodish understanding with Fryatt. I just can't see it happening. If someone like Gradel's not wanted I can't see any light for McKay.

I'd love this to happen, but i just don't think he's physically strong enough yet.

What utter crap. DJ's the player making most of our chances at the minute, and apart from being a man-mountain who can produce the odd looping header Howard's done fuck all. Are you seriously saying after Saturday that you'd keep Howard, who missed most of our chances, and drop DJ, who made most of them?

Think it through.

I like nothing more than a wagon with a band on it so count me in

Honestly though, I had wondered where he's been recently anyway

I'm not a big fan of DJ, i've said it countless times. Whether that's clouding my judgement i'm not sure, but I wasn't that impressed with him on Saturday. He is awful in front of goal, and although I didn't go against Cardiff I have been told he missed some easy chances there. For £1.6 million, he's been average at best. I like the pace he offers us, but does he use it? Not really, very light weight on the ball, positionally quite bad and as i've said, finishing is poor.

Although Howard hasn't scored that many either, about a similar rate to DJ. He has the height that none of our others strikers have and the fact this team refuses to play the ball on the deck means we'll suffer even more if Howard doesn't play, this was highlighted when he was taken off against Preston. The team didn't adapt to who was out there (Fryatt and Hayles) they just played exactly the same as they always do, get the ball and fook it straight up pitch, which is frustrating if your strikers are under 5 ft 10.

Howard is as good as any proper centre forward in this league, but if you don't supply the crosses for him then he'll have minimal impact. Likewise DJ will have minimal impact unless you give him through balls to run on to. But DJ has been poor in front of goal in the past few games and I don't see what else he offers us right now.

The number of crosses Etuhu and others supplied for Howard was one of the features of Saturday's game and Howard only really attacked one of them as I can recall. Most times he looked like I feel - as if his legs have totally lost their spring.

I've got some excuse in that I'm nearly 60 and suffering from what seems to be permanent bruising of my achilles tendon but I can't imagine that having no leap that I've seen is ever going to be much good for a centre-forward.

From what I can see it's now standard practise to have people stand by a big striker to stop them getting any power with their headers while, when possible, holding the line fairly high and preventing the striker getting near enough to goal to be dangerous

Given that situation continuing I cannot see why Howard would present a great deal of danger.

I really rate him myself i think he has great potential and i really hope he can prove he is good enough to play at the top level in a few years

These, and other kids are not unwanted mate in fact they are very highly regarded and seen as a big part of our future, what we do not wan`t to do is pitch them into a relegation battle, it`s potentially very damaging to their confidence, the time to introduce them is into a confident, winning team giving them a chance to express themselves without fear of a single mistake costing us dear and putting already edgy fans on their backs.

With the critieria for playing youngsters being as you say it's a wonder we've blooded anyone for years and you'd have to wonder now if we've abandoned all hope of blooding any in the future. :D

No, bad idea I think. Hume, Dj, Howard, Fryatt, Hayles are the ones if any to score us the goals in our remaining games. Stick with the senior pro's, they got us in to this mess and they're damn well guna get us out!!!!!

Fact of the matter is, we only have one striker in the Howard mould and a whole host of 'smaller' lads. If we're signing Lackzo, Bori, Etuhu and Hendrie to provide service/crosses then we're hardly going to drop The Crane for Ashley Chambers, Matty Fryatt or whoever, are we? If someone's going to go it's going to be DJ Campbell or Iain Hume and frankly I prefer Hume's energy and hustle to that of DJ Campbell's.

Totally disagree Ric. The lads 18, played a few games a few months ago, did **** all, he isnt ready for this standard of football yet. Cant believe hes not gone out on loan really.

You dont win anything with kids
