Uncle Monty Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Whenever i watch the FA cup the build up makes it seem so special with everyone (old footballers usually, and token old person that was at the final 60 yrs ago) saying it is such a family occasion, but this isn't the case with me. I'm not sure it's because of the amount of football that was shown back in the day but i find FA cup finals good at best (excluding liv wet spam). Honestly when im old and decreped i think people of my generation will talk of teh champions league final in such nostalgia as they do in the build up of the FA cup final. I have very fond memories of champ league - excluding juve milan which was shite. This is not a bash at the old guard, just an observation that i have come across. Is this opinion shared i wonder?

F.A Cup this year a final with two unexpected teams, a final where only the supporters of the teams involved or true, proper football fans would only care about, None of the 'big four' involved automatically means no-one cares about it. Believe me if two of the 'big four' (Or even one) was involved in the F.A Cup final the build would have been a hell of alot bigger, and I find that very disrespecting to Portsmouth and Cardiff, and I don't even have a soft spot for either team. Champions League final this year has been huge because a) Its an all English final and tbf that does deserve the build up and credit and b) It's involving two of the 'big four'. The F.A Cup big build up will no doubt be resumed next year, I'd certainly put my money on it. (You never know and the cup does through up surprises but no doubt it'll be two (Or at least one) of the 'big four' and the media will be wanking all over them again.

Its unfair to compare them one is just a national cup the other covers the whole of europe its like comparing the champions league with the world cup! (ish) The FA cup is the only domestic cup that all football fans are interested in, all countries have there own version but we don't follow theres like they do ours its the best domestic cup ever & always will be.

purpleronnie Posted 22 May 2008 Posted 22 May 2008 When I was young the FA cup seemed more important than everything. After each round me and my mates would reenact all the goals (we could remember anyway), since the premiership started its become less important its now definately 3rd or maybe even 4th in importance. I hope the FA cup dosent become just another cup like the carling cup...but its going that way.
