bigneville Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 This thread isn't to be negative but to enlighten people on the challenge that we face next season. I decided to undertake some research into how long it has taken clubs relegated from the Championship to League One to bounce back in the past 10 years, you may be slightly concerned by these facts. Since the season 97/98 - 30 clubs have been relegated - ignoring this seasons' sides Out of these 30 clubs relegated, only 11 have returned. Man City - Relegated 97/98 - 1 Season in League One - Returned via play-offs Stoke - Relegated 97/98 - 4 Season's in League One - Returned via play-offs Reading - Relegated 97/98 - 4 Season's in League One - Returned automatically. Bristol City - Relegated 98/99 - 8 Season's in League One - Returned automatically. Walsall - Relegated 99/2000 - 1 Season in League One - Returned Via play-offs. QPR - Relegated 2000/01 - 3 Season's in League One - Returned automatically. Crewe - Relegated 01/02 - 1 Season in League One - Returned automatically. Barnsley - Relegated 01/02 - 4 Season's in League One - Returned via play-offs Sheff Wed - Relegated 02/03 - 2 Season's in League One - Returned via play-offs Brighton - Relegated 02/03 - 1 Season in League One - Returned via play-offs Notts Forest - Relegated 04/05 - 3 Season's in League One - Returned automatically. Some facts In the past 4 season's only one club has returned to the Championship and it took them 3 season's to do so. 4 Sides have returned after just one season in League One - although 3 of them doing so via the play-offs. And crazily enough, not one side relegated in the past 10 years has won League One on returning to the Championship. So for all those people that think Leicester City will go on to win the League One title by an absolute mile, maybe its time for a reality check. It's going to be hard work. Just thought i'd bring some facts to you guys.
Maybes Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 Nice research. I would be very happy with a place off play to be honest with you. We will not will this league.
Finchy Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 How many of those sides went down with 52 points? I do agree tho, it's gonna be solid to get out of this league, and i can't see us doing it this season. If we do it will probably be play offs.

If we do it will probably be play offs. We are the side that went down with the highest point total. But Gillingham and Walsall have both been relgated with 50 + 51 points respectfully.
Daggers Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 How many of those sides went down with 52 points? We don't get to keep them, you know?
Ultra Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 We don't know who the manager will be, nor the squad with which he'll start the season. So it's premature to make predictions for where we'll finish. Let's take one step at a time.
mega2kn1 Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 Come on lads things could be a lot worse We could be like walsall!! Very shit Team
Legend_in_blue Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 That makes very interesting reading. I'd expect us to make a very inconsistent start to this season tbh. Very stop start. However, if you gave me a play-off final win at Wembley right now, I'd take it.
mega2kn1 Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 walsall r shit. Cant imagine how there fans must be feeling right now, Think about it poor players, no fans a tight chairman leicester av got it pretty good compared to them
AmericanScott Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 Come on lads things could be a lot worseWe could be like walsall!! Very shit Team Us or Walsall?

Number 6 Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 Good post, I'm well aware it's going to be tough. But I would rather us go into the league thinking we can get top, rather than going into it saying let's aim for 6th.
Raj Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 Good research Personally i think we'll be lucky to finish mid table...and all the positivity will have gone by Mid -September!!!
Daggers Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 ...and all the positivity will have gone by Mid -September!!! I think most of it has dribbled away already. See who gets appointed - then we'll either be Championship bound or heading for hell.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 I don't think it is going to be easy but if we win more game than last season then I'll be happy !!
Fox Mulder Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 It's going to be bloody awful. We could be bouncing around down here for years.
Daggers Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 It's going to be bloody awful. We could be bouncing around down here for years. So, we are a large club and we could be bouncing around down here for years. Big and bouncy, huh? Why am I aroused all of a sudden?
davieG Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 So, we are a large club and we could be bouncing around down here for years.Big and bouncy, huh? Why am I aroused all of a sudden? Must be that boob job you were pining for.
He's not bald Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 Nice research. I would be very happy with a place off play to be honest with you. We will not will this league. A playoff place would be terrible,I went through enough in the 90's with playoffs,it was bad enough losing at Wembley and being consigned to another year in the Championship I don't think I could take losing and staying in league 1,and remember we are long overdue for getting knocked out in the semi's."Automatic promotion or bust"...that's the only way
Mr Happy Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 Good post, I'm well aware it's going to be tough. But I would rather us go into the league thinking we can get top, rather than going into it saying let's aim for 6th. Be under no illusions it will be tough, anybody who thinks otherwise needs a reality check, but I reckon that if we can get what we desperately need - a winning mentality back into the team - then we can also acheive a positive one too. Better to go into the new season thinking we are going to get something from it than just settling for whatever we can.
AmericanScott Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 I had a dream last night that Colchester won league 1. Might place a bet on them to do it
morris1234 Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 i really dont think we should expect too much again from them next season we just need to get a better attitude around the place first! i dont think leeds will do well next season either tbh!
Ultra Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 I had a dream last night that Colchester won league 1.Might place a bet on them to do it I sometimes dream about actresses and supermodels but that doesn't mean I'd put a bet on doing them...
smokey Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 I had a dream last night that Colchester won league 1.Might place a bet on them to do it Aint a bad shout, think they will be a good side next year! def top six!
Ultra Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 I doubt whether Lisbie will be there next season. If he leaves, their supply of goals will dry up. And their defence is too leaky for them to mount a promotion challenge.
