maddog Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 How did he play today? Would he have made an impression on Pearson? Chance of him starting next Saturday?Discuss... He was quality, absolute quality. O by the way i weren't at the game I'm sure he was average just like they all sounded on the radio, and Gradel was the best
1884 Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 He played really well today, didn't do any harm at all for his chances of selection on Saturday. Doubt Pearson will go with him ahead of Wesolowski or Kishishev. Still think he needs to beef up a bit as he was beaten a few times in the tackle.
Wooly Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 He played really well. Nobody knew it was him, everyone seemed to think it was a trialing or last minute signing haha. Was probably his chance to make sure Pearson kept him in the first team picture today, and he took it. Still behind Oakley, Kish and Wesolowski in the pecking order though.
Jimmy Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 he played well, held the midfield allowing Oakley to get forward and grab a goal, wouldn't be disapointed to see him start next week at all
Thracian Posted 4 August 2008 Posted 4 August 2008 My support for King in our midfield has nothing to do with thinking Weso's a bad player. I don't. It's just that Weso and Oakley together are a bit too ordinary. Also Weso's a bit small as the defensive midfielder and King offers the same passing qualities but additional ability in the air either in defence or attack according to requirements. I didn't go to Palace but our defence sounded more stable generally, apart from 15 minutes or so when Tunchev went off. I was just concerned that the shaky period coincided with Palace playing four up front and I wondered, from a distance, why we didn't respond quicker to their change of tactics. With the squad we have we could have gone 4-5-1 and still attacked very quickly on the counter while avoiding being outnumbered in midfield. Whatever, it sounded like a solid all-round performance away from home and what has pleased me most about Pearson is that he's involved the best available players. I've often said that, for four years, we've never once fielded our strongest side. There's always been jobs for the boys, people playing out of position, people playing while unfit, people playing who unbalanced the team and people left out who were better than those on the pitch. Pearson seems to have involved everyone who's deserved to be involved and in a balanced way. And that offers me more hope for the coming season than anything else so far. We seem to have far more people in an around the team now who do things and make things happen.
consty Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 very good post from Thracian. The only additional point I'd make is that King is a goal-scoring midfielder unlike Weso. Even if he plays a deep/holding role, he has such a good shot on him and such an eye for goal that you can expect a few from him per season. But the key decider will be what proves to be the best blend or balance. If Oakley is the senior player and captain to boot, we'd want the youngster playing next to him who blends best with him. I'm starting to think that player is King rather than Weso.
Father Ted Posted 5 August 2008 Posted 5 August 2008 I agree. I actually rate Weso very high, in fact higher than King, but I believe that Pearson could well have hit on a winner with King and Oakley together in midfield. King gives Oakley the licence to attack and when he did - we scored. Our defence is also more stable.
