Joe. Posted 27 August 2008 Posted 27 August 2008 No, he didn't get a proper chance last season to show what he could do as when he did start to get fit and look sharp he was dropped by Holloway. At least Gary Megson was sticking with him and giving him a chance. Fryatt had lots of chances last season and came away with two league goals to his name. Not only that but his performances were terrible and there was no way he warranted a consistent first team place. Fryatt is to League 1 as Rob Earnshaw is to the championship, stuck at 1 level, but bloody brilliant in that division Behave.
Flynny Posted 27 August 2008 Posted 27 August 2008 It's been a long time but it was clear he would benefit from better help. I've no doubts whatsoever that he'll keep it up and might even hit 20 goals for the season which is better than I'd hoped for. Last season he seemed to be doing the same thing Rooney tends to do for England. Now we've got a midfield that lets the strikers stay in position he's bound to improve.

It's complete rubbish and the probably the biggest myth that roams this forum. 21 starts last season and he scored 2 goals. If that doesn't constitute a chance then I don't know what does.
David Guiza Posted 27 August 2008 Posted 27 August 2008 Wooooo go on bigman! Untill Akinfenwa starts banging them in along with the mighty James Brown if we had them 2 plus Fryatt there would be no stopping us
Little Nicky Posted 27 August 2008 Posted 27 August 2008 I hope he does the business, I've backed him as top scorer, that's £170 if he comes good and stays there all season! He is getting a lot of unfair criticism, looks a different player this year, give him a chance, he's scored 4 in 3, last year is in the past, come on Matty!
Corky Posted 27 August 2008 Posted 27 August 2008 If you take out the last two seasons and combine this one with the half-season he was here, he's scored about 10 in 15 or so games. That is class So we should ignore the last two seasons
Lillehamring Posted 27 August 2008 Posted 27 August 2008 Sorry Thrac but I disagree, I for one do not believe that Fryatt will score around 20 goals this season.I still feel that he is not as good a striker as many seem to believe. Classic case was last Saturday, yes he scored 2 goals, one of which was a very simple header. However, there were times during the game when he had the ball in the box and had he shot first time may well have scored, instead he felt he needed that extra touch and instantly the ball was taken from him. If you are right, then I'll gladly buy you a pint or two. come on, he's a young lad, he's still learning and, as is so often the case, when he gets confident the goals will come from everywhere (hopefully)
The Reverend Posted 27 August 2008 Posted 27 August 2008 Joe Fox on TB drew attention to the following info on a BBC site which makes rare and wondrous reading for City fans... ============================================================================= Leading scorers in division one: ==================== Fryatt Leicester 4 Lambert Bristol Rovers 4 Forster Brighton 3 Hughes Oldham 3 Taylor Oldham 3 Akinfenwa Northampton 2 Brown Hartlepool 2 Carlton Carlisle 2 Cox Swindon 2 Duffy Bristol Rovers 2 Gillespie Colchester 2 Graham Carlisle 2 Ibehre Walsall 2 Liddell Oldham 2 Mackail-Smith Peterborough 2 It may well cost me a pint if he keeps it up but it's great to see Fryatt making his mark again. It's been a long time but it was clear he would benefit from better help. I've no doubts whatsoever that he'll keep it up and might even hit 20 goals for the season which is better than I'd hoped for. I dont think theres any doubt about it Thrac. He's got 20 goals in a season in League 1 for a struggling Walsall side, i have no doubt he can get over 20 in one gunning for promotion. But as others have pointed out, he has some making up to do.
clazkel Posted 27 August 2008 Posted 27 August 2008 It serves little purpose to go over that. Fryatt had stacks of chances and, in any case, was playing at Championship level. He's now playing in a lower League where he's been provenly capable, with far better players to help him and under a manager who seems able to get the best out of almost everyone. His return to form doesn't nullify the past two years but it does give us a chance to put it behind us and praise what he's doing now. But make no mistake, Fryatt will face a real challenge showing that he can follow this season with a successful stint at a higher level. He may be fitter, more focused and surrounded by worthwhile help but he will still have his own limitations to overcome and while I hope he succeeds, it's no foregone conclusion. Yes i agree with you, Fryatt did miss alot of chances but he creates alot which is what we lacked last season. There is no point going over it, i just hope he does well this season and i think if he gets confidence he will be able to score at a higher level. The service the strikers received last season was poor and playing on the wing was just a joke, but we are alot better balanced this season
