Alexikokopops Posted 21 October 2008 Posted 21 October 2008 Does anyone know what this is? My camera broke a couple of weeks after buying it and I've been told that I have to pay £168.38 to get it fixed because I don't have a valid and filled in "World Wide Warranty Card"
Bellend Sebastian Posted 21 October 2008 Posted 21 October 2008 Where did you buy it from? Most electrical items come with such cards but I don't think they can refuse to fix/replace if it's not been returned. Is it the shop or Panasonic that are being arseholes about it?

Have you got a reciept, if it's still under warranty you should be able to get a card by registering the product online, Sony do a similar thing!!

Panasonic have recently notified all dealers that they will no longer cover the warranty on any non-ce product unless a valif and filled in 'World Wide Warranty Card' is produced". I've contacted Panasonic about it, I await their response

My Dell keyboard has a CE mark, as does my Yuraku (?) monitor, my Panasonic telephone and Panasonic portable stereo, all in handy reach of my desk. It's a European directive, I believe. Is this camera not a standard UK spec or something? Some sort of crazy import?

The company I bought the camera off offer a warranty, but it will take 4-8 weeks to get it repaired. I want it for when I go to Paris next week. I have to pay £44 to the company that would've repaired it on Warranty if I had a Worldwide Warranty Card because I need to cover postage costs and inspection fee. This all would've been covered by the warranty. Fucking Denver?!

davieG Posted 21 October 2008 Posted 21 October 2008 It means it Conforms to European Directive/Standards for us these replaced most of our old BS (British Standards) that carried the Kite Mark. If it doesn't have CE mark it means it may not meet those standards and therefore, looks like it provides an excuse for dodgy manufacturers/suppliers to avoid all responsibilities towards a faulty product. more info - http://www.ce-marking.org/what-is-ce-marking.html

Alexikokopops Posted 21 October 2008 Author Posted 21 October 2008 Right. I have paid £44 to the place that has had a look at it on behalf of Panasonic. They're also sending me a letter to confirm that it's a mechanical fault and not my fault that the lens is broken. I can send it to the people who I bought it off and they will fix it on their warranty. If they try and claim that it's my fault I have proof from an independant source. It will take 4-8 weeks, which is a bit annoying but I can live with it. The £44 is a bit annoying, if I'd known it wasn't CE before I sent it then I wouldn't have bothered with the Panasonic people. My advice to you people: If you find a product that looks nice and cheap then make sure it's from Europe, and if it isn't then make sure the place you buy it off has a warranty scheme which covers all their products. Fucks sake. I think my sister has a camera, I'll borrow that for Paris.
