colbo68 Posted 31 October 2008 Posted 31 October 2008 I'm interested to compare the striking prowess of the leagues leading scorer - Ricky Lambert, with that of Big Steve Howard on Saturday (assuming that both play) - to my mind, as stated many times before, the over-reliance on Howard's flick-ons and the long-ball game is to the detriment of City as an attacking force. I just don't think he is good enough. I will be intrigued to see whether Lambert is as good as reports suggest and whether he should be considered a Pearson purchase in the transfer window.
Ric Flair Posted 31 October 2008 Posted 31 October 2008 I have been plesantly surprised this season when we have had a back four of Powell, Tunchev, Hobbs/Morrison and Gilbert how much we've tried to pass the ball and not go route one all the while to Howard. Ok, it's used at times, but I think Pearson has made a conscious effort to make the players keep things on the deck where possible. Howard needs goals and quickly.
Uncle Albert Posted 31 October 2008 Posted 31 October 2008 Howard needs goals and quickly. They are going to come I can feel it. Howard need's to be more selfish at times, many a time this season Howard has opted to pass the ball wide instead of having a cheeky effort at goal or he tries to knock a header down in the box instead of going for goal.

He's guilty of missing some naughty chances though. Fryatt get's a way with being wasteful as he inevitably get's more chances than Steve due to being a bit more selfish and slippery in the penalty box.

HE needs some luck not goals, having 5 disallowed is pretty dam unlucky tbh. but he does need to start scoring a few more too

Halfsy Posted 31 October 2008 Posted 31 October 2008 I'm a big fan of Steve, he is vey important to us this season. I appreciate he is immobile and lacks pace, but he is an old-fashioned striker who are a dying breed. He is fantastic at holding the ball up and getting it wide and is very strong in the air. With Max and Lloyd supplying ammunition from wide, which we were unable to do last season Steve sould score plenty of headed goals. He isn't scoring a great deal so far, but that is beacuse he isn't as selfish as Matty and has been unlucky with goals being disallowed. We have goals in us up top this season, although i wouldn't say no to NP signing Lambert in Jan!
Raj Posted 31 October 2008 Posted 31 October 2008 I need not comment about my personal views on the prementioned Leicester City "Striker" <_<

I agree Pearson has stopped the long ball game. and I think that is why he does not play Hendo

Great stopper but distribution is woeful, and his comments about 'Tunchev doing the basic things well' was unbelievable, he can comment when he can do the same.

Head Honcho Posted 31 October 2008 Posted 31 October 2008 HE needs some luck not goals, having 5 disallowed is pretty dam unlucky tbh.but he does need to start scoring a few more too Are you saying he's been unlucky to be offside or unlucky to be ruled offside? If you're offside it's not because you're unlucky-Howard needs to sharpen his game.
