So Mattock isn't the finished article and needs to polish his game by playing more games and staying at LCFC - so what do some people suggest?

Drop him and play Powell who's probably only got one season left in him.

If the people in the game believe he has potential and by all accounts many do then for LCFC we need to play him even if it is to ultimately sell him.

I thought he had a decent game last night, being quite close to him in the 2nd half he spent a considerable amount of time supporting and getting in front of Dyer and into attacking positions, what I'd expect from a full back playing at home against a team at the bottom. Yes his defending needs to improve, in fact his whole game does, that will happen if we give him games.

I thought our whole defensive back line, considering the opposition looked uneasy at times last night and prone to errors, missing headers and mis-placed passes - yes even the mighty Tunchev.

Couldn't agree more. I thought Mattock had a good game last night. He supported when the attack when he could and looked quite solid at the back.

I'm not sure what people expect of him or indeed what a left-back should do for 90 minutes. It will, by its very nature be a peripheral position where you'll only look good if:

a) you're playing against a tricky winger and are able to completely snuff him out (which if you are very good will go unnoticed as you'll read the ball early and won't have to make last-ditch tackles)

b) you're storming up the wing to support the play Ashley Cole/ Gael Clichy style, allowing you to get noticed for the glamorous aspect of the game. Frequently, this is where a team'll get caught on the break. From the looks of our midfield last night and their failure to pick uo men when Crewe did break, I'd rather Mattock showed the bit of restraint he did.

Alternatively bro, mattock's just marking time til his big-money transfer in January... in much the same way as Mark Draper's head dropped in the months before he joined Villa. Remember that?

Yes bro.

Past players, huh? What about Paul Kitson taking his eye off the ball when Derby came calling? What about Neil Lewis's head dropping before he joined wormwood scrubs?

That'll be Stearman, who is now on course to be a Prem player next season.....

surely the crucial thing about mattock is that he's got the kind of natural ability going forward that you can't teach. Defensive nous can be coached into a fullback (ashley cole & glen johnson cases in point). The point is, do we have the coaches here at the club capable of doing that job? I'm not saying we don't, I just don't know a lot about our coaches. :dunno:

Seen nothing this season to prove he'll play at a higher level than this. Powell has looked more assusred, defended and distributed the ball better this season.

The left back spot is a no brainer for me.

Heard Mattock is off to Everton in January, if any City Players (and I bet quite a few do) read some of the shite that is spouted about them on this forum who could blame them for leaving, look at Stearman, that lad got crucified on here last Season and as someone said earlier he looks like he is destined for the Premier League.

We are a team in the 3rd tier of English Football, playing argually our best football for 4 or 5 years with a great crop of youngsters and seasoned Pros but still its all doom and gloom. FFS lighten up, rant over. :frusty:

He played at right back for us. Wolves play him in his natural position of centre back where he's been one of their best players this season.

What does that say about our recent managers? nuff said

Am I the only one who thought he was bollocks in the Champ but isn't as bad now  ?

Nope.

I think he's come on a great deal this season, he's got so much more confidence in himself, especially going forward. If you watch his performances now and compare them to last season I assure you there will be a big difference. I remember Plymouth away last year when he looked totally lost on the left with Sheehan and I thought it would take much longer than it has done for him to settle down.

He's a good asset to our team whether he stays or goes, and he'll only get better with time.

i would like to see Powell and Gilbert back in.

I would also like to see Adams right wing but i'm asuming he's injured because he's played much better than Gradel when he's played this season.

I thought Campbell played well and Howard when he came on.

Id like to see Pearson making subs early more now, after 60 mins like yesterday, and if Howard's on the bench or Campbell bring them on if we need them.

We definately passed it around a lot more along the floor but ended up losing the ball after a load of passes.

I still would prefer DJ to start and Howard to be subed on after 60 minutes, DJ just needs a goal for confidence.

I can't imagine that the club is awash with spare cash, in fact we know it isn't, so if we are to buy a goalie, a midfielder and a striker the someone has to go, and that means Mattock and hopefully Kisnorbo.

I thought he was extremely lazy at times last night, didn't really want to overlap so decided to chip balls towards the corner flag. If we get a half decent offer then we may as well sell him, Berner or Powell can drop into left-back.

Still set our first goal up and got forward on a number of times, but there does seem to be a lack of energy from him at times. He has bursts of attacking play then likes to sit back for a while, wierd.
