What's happened to him?

He was actually a better player in the Championship than at this level. Which can't be said about any of the other player's who were at the club last season.

If he was bought in the summer everyone would be slating him, it's just because he has come through the academy that we don't say it.

I want to see him do well but for me Powell has to come back.

Overrated IMO.

I can't agree with the thought that he's worse now than he was in the championship. For me, he is the same, although in my opinion he was never that great a player anyway.

He is overrated.

Also, why he should generate so much interest from premiership teams is beyond me. I don't see what the fuss is about.

People harp on about his positional sense not being too great, but they were saying the same about Sheehan. At least he had a good left foot from deadball situations.

I've always argued that he's a bit of a myth. To me he is still a player of unfulfilled promise.

Mattock has ability as a fairly skillful attacking defender but is still a long way from being a master craftsman and that showed again tonight.

Certainly he made some worthwhile contributions, including his part in the move that led to our first goal but he doesn't yet have the attacking impact he should or the defensive certainly that so characterises a quality full-back.

People forget that he's still young but he'll have to learn fast if he expects to make an impact at a higher level. For me he should spend at least the rest of this season at Leicester.

If he wasn't 18, people would slag him off mercilessly. I'm glad they don't but he's usually a bit of a weak link for us I think. Tonight he didn't seem to have anyone to mark so he could just get forward, and did a decent job. Never looks like he will create anything worthwhile though.

I think hes done alright this season, going forward he's looked very good but defensively he gets a bit sloppy at times. He links up well with Dyer, and his overlapping runs are crucial to us going forward.

Gilbert has been the same as Mattock, good going forward but not that good in defence.

Myb he knows hes going in Jan , so he dnt give a ****!?!?

Or he probably cares more than anyone at this club at the minute.

He had a better game than made out tonight.

What an astonishing thread, City fans busy slagging off a superb young player after a home win, he had a cracking game tonight including a bit of skill that was pure genius ! had Ronaldo done it we would be watching it for months, I`ve alway`s said I support City DISPITE our fans not because of them and crap like this only serves to prove it.

SORRY!

all i was suggesting was that Powelly should be recalled after not putting a foot wrong at left back for us.

And what did he do after that fine bit of skill :giggle:

He passed it straight to the Crewe defender of course.

Apart from his first touch after coming on as sub at Skunthorpe, a underhit back pass that Hendo had to skurry for :crylaugh:

Are you his agent or his dad? :D

He's done wonderfully well for his age and did his bit tonight.

But why, why, why don't people just let him get on with improving for a season or two.

The lad is not superb. He's promising.

And I'd like to see him given time to work on that promise before people start elevating him to "superb" status before it's justified.

And I say that with the best of intentions and goodwill.

we have had a lot of promosing youngsters at city & they seem to break into the first team look great for that first season then they discover going out with the lads ,late nights, etc example stearman

mattock looks good & promosing at the moment but i even turned round to my lad tonight & said i could'nt see what all the fuss is about him from the prem teams ???????? thought sheehan had a sweeter left foot myself mattock could do with staying with us for another couple of seasons just to develop a bit more imo

That'll be Stearman, who is now on course to be a Prem player next season.....

So Mattock isn't the finished article and needs to polish his game by playing more games and staying at LCFC - so what do some people suggest?

Drop him and play Powell who's probably only got one season left in him.

If the people in the game believe he has potential and by all accounts many do then for LCFC we need to play him even if it is to ultimately sell him.

I thought he had a decent game last night, being quite close to him in the 2nd half he spent a considerable amount of time supporting and getting in front of Dyer and into attacking positions, what I'd expect from a full back playing at home against a team at the bottom. Yes his defending needs to improve, in fact his whole game does, that will happen if we give him games.

I thought our whole defensive back line, considering the opposition looked uneasy at times last night and prone to errors, missing headers and mis-placed passes - yes even the mighty Tunchev.

Am I the only one who thought he was bollocks in the Champ but isn't as bad now  ?

I'm in agreement with you. I thought he has been fairly good for us since his return from injury. Last season, he was dog muck at times with the odd decent performance. I must admit he does need to work on his final product when he get's in the final third as he is getting a lot of joy going forward right now, but wasting it.
