Samilktray Posted 8 December 2008 Posted 8 December 2008 Oh yeah? That murdering sleazebag Jesus (may he rot in hell) Gil was such a wonderful ambassador for football - just like those incredibly tolerant fans whose display of passion saw them forced to play their last Champions League tie behind closed doors. I wouldn't mourn if they went bust. Choosing between them and Real is like choosing between the National Front and the BNP. Barcelona (club and city) shows the modern, civilised face of Spain. A celebration of a great football team, and you come in here with that.
Ultra Posted 10 December 2008 Posted 10 December 2008 The thread was diverted towards Atletico, of whom some posters (who clearly don't remember 1997) have a somewhat naive and romanticised voew. To paraphrase the late Brian Clough, whatever they've won has been done by cheating.
Darkzzz_ Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Should probably bring this thread to the front for us Barcelona followers.
fox123 Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Madrid have a good record at the Nou Camp as they have only lost once in their last 5 visits here. Previous results between these 2 at the Nou Camp, 0-1, 3-3, 1-1, 3-0, 1-2. If past records are to be believed, the underdogs always come through when these 2 meet. i would not count Barca as the underdogs here particularly when they are at home and rested most key players in the Champions League for this clash. After seeing what Ramos is capable of with Spurs, i believe many punters will be supporting Barca if they bet on this one. However, i do not think Ramos will be thrashed so early in his Real Madrid career. Prediction: Draw
purpleronnie Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Hope Madrid win I picked em to win the Champions league too (Along with Juve). Cant wait for this game. Biggest league game in the world? Barca v Real, Rangers v celtic, AC v Inter, Boca v R Plate, Houston v Dallas Theres another thread.
CosbehFox Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 The game can not be under-estimated for it's way in dividing Spain. Spain in it's current guise is a relatively new country and it's a country which contains areas which are immensely proud of their local tradition, probably even more so than their nationality. Real will always be Franco's team - the team Franco aided whereas Barca remain the team of the Catalan and symbolise the Catalan image which the Spanish generally respect because it connects with the embrace of local tradition. From Di Stefano to Luis Enrique, it's Football's cat and mouse. In England, apart from a selective few games. We just simply don't have the political charge that can be brought to a football game such as this. I suggest everyone reads ''Morbo'', it's the best book I've ever and it details all about Spanish football done in a travel-blog sort of way from an ex=pat living in San Sebastian, deep in Basque country of course. Explains a lot.
Darkzzz_ Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 The only way they can stop him, Is kick him. Come on Messi, Let's have a repeat of last season.
Fosse Boy Posted 30 December 2008 Posted 30 December 2008 Having recently read a chapter on the Barca-Real rivalry in a book I got for Christmas, I can now confirm that Barca are definitely my favourite of the two. However, I still prefer Athletico Bilbao in La Liga, gotta love those crazy Basques!

Fosse Boy Posted 30 December 2008 Posted 30 December 2008 There is a lot of hate here... Ah, I must get better books as presents evidently. They claimed that Barca and Bilbao fans teamed up against Real on a few occasions, i.e. two separatist regions joining together to fight centrist Spain?

Darkzzz_ Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 There was a little history before but as soon as this brawl kicked off in front of the king of Spain, things have been heated ever since.
