The Long throw

Recommended Posts

Thinking about it recently, I think we should adopt the 'long-throw' tactic.

Having played on Sunday, we won 3-1. Two of our goals came from long-throws. Stoke's recent success has come from the long-throw of Rory Delap and Tranmere's run to the League Cup final was mainly down to Dave Challinor.

It is certainly something that should be discussed and with Steve Howard in there, stick it on his head to flick on for the likes of Fryatt, King, Dyer, etc. lurking.

It didn't work for Tranmere in the 2000 Worthington Cup Final did it?

Matt Oakley is a massive thrower on Footy Man.

It got them there didn't it? And to and FA Cup quarter final that year aswell.

You can't just suddenly start adopting a long throw tactic, you need to have the personnel. We actually attempt quite a few long throws a game but never look remotely like scoring from them.

While we're on the subject of throws, why is Gilbert not taking throw-ins at the minute? Is it an injury or is he just shit at them?

Not good enough is it? If it is that effective it should be winning them finals and getting them Promoted.

Not good enough?!?! It got a 3rd division side to a League Cup FINAL!

Honestly, what is your problem, it seems that all you want to do is argue and you always have to be right all of the time!

A. They were in Division 1.

B. To put their success of that season ALL down to a long throw is just plain stupid.

Exactly.

So its not me wanting to argue with you its me telling you what I think. And proving you wrong really.

And why wouldn't it work. In every case I've seen it, it works. :dunno:

You've named two examples in eight years. Are you seriously suggesting they're the only examples in the past eight years? They're also two examples where the person has a ridiculously good long throw. We don't have anyone with that kind of throwing power or else we probably would use it as some kind of weapon. It's not as easy as saying "lets use the long throw, it's bound to work as a successful weapon all the time".

We should play a little bit like Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool as it seems to have brought them some success

Millwall had a guy with a massive throw and they got, well worse. :giggle:

I remember the goals from that game >_< Worst defending in the history of the game!
