Unit Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Well, i've got the main course and the pudding sorted, know exactly what i'm doing but need to think of a decent italian starter for the Mrs. She's vege but there's a shit-ton of meat replacement type things, any ideas?
Unit Posted 12 February 2009 Author Posted 12 February 2009 Dont use tofu, it tastes off fook all Aye but there's that quorn stuff and with enough sauces etc you can make it pertty good. there's all fake bacon and everything so i'm taking all suggestions
fox123 Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 What about One of those big field mushrooms stuffed with mozeralla (sp) tomato and basil Edit: Or a Stuffed Pepper, with a mushroom risotto
Unit Posted 12 February 2009 Author Posted 12 February 2009 What about One of those big field mushrooms stuffed with mozeralla (sp) tomato and basilEdit: Or a Stuffed Pepper, with a mushroom risotto hero, nice one
Guest Bilo Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Lebanese Kofta made with Quorn mince and falafel. If you can't find the recipe online, Morrisons sell the kits and they are delish! (Just don't tell the lady. )

Edmund Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Something light like an italian salad with a nice olive oil based dressing. Make sure you don't over do it and have enough room left for your main course and dessert. A few nice assorted bread rolls with a nice olive based butter or even cooked garlic bread could do nicely on the side as well.
Nationwider Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 What about One of those big field mushrooms stuffed with mozeralla (sp) tomato and basilEdit: Or a Stuffed Pepper, with a mushroom risotto Nice. Filling, but nice.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 I'll have a gander!how is it anyway? did you get home the other day? we lost you! I certainly did mate although don't ask me how! I was somewhat worse for wear it has to be said. It is really quite tasty, although I made it with minced lamb and it isn't difficult to be fair. There's no reason why it wouldn't work with Quorn, might even be nicer as I quite like Quorn.
Nationwider Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Don't do fried egg on toast. It's not romantic. Unless you serve it nekkid. Dunno if it's Italian, but slow roasted whole garlic with crusty bread is tasty. The garlic goes all sweet and gooey and is great spread over some nice bread.
fox123 Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Nice. Filling, but nice. Yea I love cooking risotto, extremely versatile and pretty cost effective as well.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 What about something with cous-cous? Now that is flavoursome.
Nationwider Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Yea I love cooking risotto, extremely versatile and pretty cost effective as well. The only downside is you've got to stay with it and give it some respect while it cooks. But it shows a bit of love and dedication, which is always a good thing on V-Day.
cisono Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 What about something with cous-cous? Now that is flavoursome. Not really Italian in my opinion, more North African Chopped tomatoes on toast aka bruschetta. That's not what I know as bruschetta
Hitesh Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 Bruschetta all the way! Easy to make and tastes great. Or if you feel adventurous, try a mushroom risotto. I would say some garlic bread on the side but no so great for the ol' breath which won't help for after dinner goings on!
AmericanScott Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 For after dinner, you can lay in bed with a bottle of her favorite wine (or Stella ) and feed eachother grapes from the vine.

lavrentis Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 Chopped tomatoes on toast aka bruschetta. The italian one on Ready Steady Cook always makes that. Bruscheettaaaaaa
Guest Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 The italian one on Ready Steady Cook always makes that. Bruscheettaaaaaa That's because it's a doddle. For the record, as much as I like Italian food, it's about time he started to think outside the box, and do something not Italian for a change. He is beginning to bore me now. <_<
