DB11 Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 My computer is pretty basic, although it's a decent all-rounder if you dont want to play high end games, does the job for what i need it for though.Aspire m3291 AMD Phenom X4 9150e quad-core processor (1.8GHz, 2MB Cache) Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium 2GB DDR2 800MHz memory 320GB SATA hard drive (7200rpm) ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics Dual Layer DVD Rewriter 6x USB, 1x IEEE 1394 FireWire® ports I'd hardly call that basic pal
lavrentis Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Just bought 2GB (DDR2) of RAM of ebay for £18 totalling my RAM now to 4GB Theres more availible at that price so if anyone wants some I'll send them the link (especially at that price)
Legend_in_blue Posted 26 February 2009 Posted 26 February 2009 Just recently got the 1gb geforce 9500gt installed in my computer. Wow. I can't believe how well this thing runs. Bioshock, Mass Effect, Company of Heroes, you name it, on full settings 1280 x 1024 (the most my monitor can do!) and not even the slightest drop in performance. I am quite amazed. I never thought it would be this good. It's real smooth.

Legend_in_blue Posted 27 February 2009 Posted 27 February 2009 How much did that set you back? £400. For a completely new tower system including the graphics card. What PSU do you have? It's a normal supply. The card doesn't require anything else. Seriously guys, you can't do better than this card. I am amazed at how good it is. Which begs the question: Why fork out over £1000 for a gaming rig? And upwards of £200 for a stand-alone graphics card?

Great card if it runs on that then
Daggers Posted 27 February 2009 Posted 27 February 2009 Why on earth would you need 6gb of ram? These specs are just getting silly. I said that when they released the CD - "who needs more than a floppy disk full of information? It's getting mental, there'll be no future in it." God bless Moore's Law
BlabyFox Posted 27 February 2009 Posted 27 February 2009 i have a computer. errrrm its LG. and thats all i know

Legend_in_blue Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 I just installed Chronicles of Riddick. Never got the blighter to work before as I had a dodgy version of windows. Works a treat now. Classic game. I'm well impressed.
lavrentis Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 Just blown £138 on a new graphics card for my old pc which I'm doing up. Is it natural to feel abit mellow after losing that amount of cash. Hopefully the 9800GTX will be worth it.....

Hopefully the 9800GTX will be worth it..... What resolutions can your monitor do? Mine goes up to 1280 x 1024. I need to invest in a new screen which will take the resolution up to HD standard. Maybe then I'll notice some framerate drops with the 9500GT.

Legend_in_blue Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 Yeah I use that resolution too Is that your max resolution? If it is, blow another £200 on a screen! That's what I'm thinking I'll have to do...
Legend_in_blue Posted 28 February 2009 Posted 28 February 2009 Just found this... Monitor Worth a punt? One chap said this about it: "I had worried about it's use in games but having played a few sessions of COD4 and UT3 at the native resolution of 1920 x 1200, I can safely say in the venacular that I was blown away by the experience. I was extremely impressed. 24" does make a huge difference in multi-player first person shooters - if you have the graphic's card to handle it (mine is an nVidia 8800GTX on a Core 2 Duo 6600 - so not Uber). was worried that my system wouldn't be able to handle it at the highest resolution without lagging but both UT3 and COD4 where as smooth, clear, and colourful as you would wish."

Daggers Posted 1 March 2009 Posted 1 March 2009 I'm still waiting for my insurance claim to settle - that is going to get me an Apple. The only thing I have to do is work out whether I'm getting an iMac or a Macbook.
