Shrenchel Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 They do get in. I know loads of soldiers/ex soldiers who fight all the time. At football, down the pub or in town. And if you want anyone fighting for your country surely you want the ones who are up for it? What I was gunna say. All the lads from my area that joined the infantry were up for a scrap at every opportunity and were generally fooking racist as well. Go to Darlington a Saturday night. The squadies there will make you wish you were back in Bermondsey.
BoneDog Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 I believe the reference to fighting and racism were two different items. As for not getting caught up in it as an innocent spectator - bollocks! Where have you been all these years? There's been many, many instances of 'innocent' fans and non-fans being attacked just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, if you've never been caught up like that you haven't been going long, going to the right(wrong) matches or you've been extremely lucky. And it's not significantly different from Saturday night violence, it's still Neanderthal and pointless and happens because of a combination of drink and/or the security of numbers. Most of those involved would shit themselves if they weren't either drunk or surrounded by like minded twats. Under no circumstances whatever, one believes the cause is can they be excused, we're all paying the price both financially and in how we are treated as fans by these arseholes. I've seen loads. I've been goin football for over 20 years. I used to be fascinated by the firms in the late 80's and early 90's and used to go loads of football matches on my own in Notts, Derby and Leicester between 15 and 18 years old and saw quite a bit and never got attacked. I was talkin to a bouncer outside a pub once when a bus pulled up, some lads got off, showed a sign to the bouncer, he shouted 'they're here', everyone rushed out the pub and a massive brawl ensued all around me but I never got touched. That's the trouble I was talkin about, the organised stuff. I don't think most of them run around bangin random people. The groups of youth who just run around pissed up causing shit are just wanabee bad men. I have been randomly attacked by groups of lads but never at football. Only on nights out down back streets at 3 in the morning.
BoneDog Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 I think he was referring to the fans that were singing "town full of pakis" when he was talking about racism. Seen. I don't think I understood what I read properly. Was a bit pished
lookwhaticando Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 Millwall, handily for us, beat McDons tonight. McDons now on 67 points from 36 games. Winning their two games in hand would put them on 73 points - 8 behind us. Milwall also now on 67 points, with one game in hand on us.
Thracian Posted 17 March 2009 Posted 17 March 2009 What I was gunna say. All the lads from my area that joined the infantry were up for a scrap at every opportunity and were generally fooking racist as well. Go to Darlington a Saturday night. The squadies there will make you wish you were back in Bermondsey. Racist? Well, it's not impossible to imagine a soldier who's sent out to fight against foreigners, not particularly liking them. You should have tried to find Englishmen who had a good word for Germans 50 years ago. And I suppose if you've come back from Helmand Province having just watched a couple of your pals being blown into 100 pieces it wouldn't help much in changing your mind. If our Government really didn't want to stir up bad feeling between our soldiers and, say, the Iraqis and Afghans maybe they shouldn't have sent them off to be killed or maimed on some invented pretext. How else would good Christian Blair have expected them to react, any more than when our troops were sent to Northern Ireland or The Falklands? That said, though, I couldn't see too many Luton protesters who I'd immediately pick out as champions of any campaign to foster better race relations either. In fact some were distinctly impolite. Wars foster hatred just as do opposing ideals . For sure it is much easier to embrace the idea of racial harmony when you've never had family or close friends killed or injured by foreigners. Many students and young people are in that position, of course. They've never done National Service, never been to a war zone, are surrounded by friendly foreign colleagues at work or at college and see no reason why they should hate anyone. Smashing. But talk to those who have fought in Northern Ireland, Iraq or Afghanistan and you will often get a totally different viewpoint. Or no spoken viewpoint at all. Theory is easy if you never get the experience to test it.
Cat Burger Posted 18 March 2009 Posted 18 March 2009 For anyone interested I missed the last train on Saturday night and ended up in Billericay via 'The Pink Toothbrush' in Rayleigh. I've only just got back.

BoneDog Posted 19 March 2009 Posted 19 March 2009 As I said then you've been lucky You talk as if you admire them as well! I used to admire them when I was a lad. I don't see anything wrong with 50 blokes meetin up for a bang up if that's what they enjoy as long as they only fight eachother and do it out the way of town centres or kids. But as for random nobheads who go round attackin anyone, I despise them and wish they'd all get shot in the face.
