The situation with Canero

It's dum. Why is he never mentioned by Levein and why do the media not ask questions about him. Does he be training with the 1st team?

The player himself has also not said anything. Just tell the fans whats going on!

City Gunned Down In Season Closer

Leicester's reserves finished off their season with defeat to Arsenal, the game ending in a 4-2 scoreline which somewhat flattered the visitors.

There was standing room only at Marston's Stadium and the lively crowd were treated to six goals in a keenly contested match.

City started the game brightly and set out to show that they would not be out-played by the Premiership giants.

Sadly with a quarter of an hour gone the Gunners capitalised on a mishap to open the scoring. Kerrea Gilbert charged down Conrad Logan's attempted clearance and the luck of the bounce enabled him to round the City 'keeper before side-footing the ball home from a tight angle.

Persistence from Stephen Dawson on the byline teed-up Chris O'Grady on 29 minutes. A well timed block from an Arsenal defender denied O'Grady before Matt Heath saw his header fly wide of the near post from the resulting corner.

The Foxes continued to press forward and got their breakthrough in the 34th minute. Having put the visitors on the back foot, a Peter Canero through ball found Stefan Moore free in the box. It took heroics from ex-City loanee Stuart Taylor to prevent Moore from scoring but as the ball rebounded out, City peppered the goal with shots and it was third time lucky when O'Grady thumped his effort into the back of the net for the equaliser.

The sides went in at the half all square, but Arsenal were to retake the lead in the 73rd minute. A corner kick was headed back across the face and Nicklas Bendtner made no mistake in blasting into the roof of the net from close range.

Leicester nearly struck back immediately, Jason Wilcox unleashing a stinging volley from the edge of the area which went just wide of the upright.

Moments later however, Logan was sold short on a back-pass, gifting the Arsenal attack with an opportunity to score. Fortunately Richard Stearman reacted quickly and was on hand to mop up the danger.

With 70 minutes gone, Arturo Lupoli extended the Gunners' advantage by converting a controversial penalty when it looked as if Canero had won the ball with his sliding challenge.

Just three minutes later Lupoli added his second and Arsenal's fourth, seizing on a flick-on to knock the ball under the advancing Logan.

City then pulled one back late on courtesy of Scot Gemmill (pictured above right). The midfielder latched on to a long ball with a burst of pace and despite Taylor's block, the ball broke in Gemmill's favour to allow him to walk it over the line to make the final score 4-2.

CITY: Logan, Canero, Morley, Dawson ©, Stearman, Heath, O'Grady (Dodds 69), Gemmill, Wright, Moore, Wilcox

Subs (not used): Porter, Wykes, Graham, Wesolowski

Booked: Heath 22, Stearman 38

ARSENAL: Taylor ©, Hoyte, Gilbert, Mumaba, Skulason (Kelly 88), Birchall (O'Donnell 57), Djourou, Flamini, Smith, Lupoli, Bendtner

To be fair it doesnt explain why hes not being considered for the first team, if he's fit. CL clearly doent rate him.

it would be nice if the fans got an explanation

100206[/snapback]

It would be nice but I'm sure it's not in his contract that he has to explain every decision he makes. Besides the general feedback I've heard is he's over weight, now what's causing that ?

too many kebabs would be my guess

I cant help thinking theres an underlying problem somewhere. I'm not saying I know anything particularly but it the 'Levein doesnt seem to rate him' thing is just a little bit far fetched for me. To sum up, I think theres something more in it. :S

He trains with the first team but if you'd seen him last night, you'd know why he can't get in Levein's team. He has put a good few ponds on and he looked totally off the pace. You can only judge players ion how they do in training and on the pitch and if that's what he shows Levein then he can't be surprised that he hasn't been given another chance. Fitness work needed in the summer.

Well that clears that up then :)

Fair explanation...

However, it doesn't explain why Canero was dropped in favour of Makin (of all people!) after only 2 games into Levein's management, when by all accounts he was playing quite well. He wasn't even injured at the time and hasn't featured ever since. And to be honest, Lee 'who' Morris gets more of a mention by Levein than Canero does.

Levein is doing the Radio Leicester phone-in on the 9th May (the day after the Plymouth game), someone could phone up and ask him then.

Canero has never been fully fit imo. He was injured the week before Levein came in and hadn't done an outdoor session for a while so I was surprised that Levein brought him in for that short spell in the first place. I think the backroom staff have written this season off for him a while a back and see it as an extended pre-season for him. The worrying thing is that he did a lot more work over the summer than the other lads last season after surgery and he's still picked up niggly injury after niggly injury this season. Lee Morris seems fitter than Canero, maybe because he tries too much too soon after operations and that might be why he keeps getting setbacks?

If Morris is fitter than Canero, then Canero should watch his back every time he passes a knacker's yard. :D:P:thumbup:;)

Maybe I didn't phrase that very well. When Morris gets back from his injuries, he's usually in a much better physical state than Canero has been when he's recovered from his. That's probably because Morris over does it in the gym before he gets out on the training pitch and subsequently he picks up anoyther injury soon after.

He's been playing reserve games all season, and if he's still overweight, then you have to question Canero's attitude.

He may have incurred some niggly injuries, but he's a professional football and should not be in a position where he's overweight during the season.

Canero's put on weight and been dropped

It doesn't bode well for Canero. The right-back slot has to be just about the most contested position next season, with Kenton, Stearman and Maybury all ahead of him (although they can also all play elsewhere in a back four).

Looks like its a long, hot summer spent slogging up and down Beacon Hill (and laying off the deep-fried Mars bars) for Mr Canero. :(

Canero can play right wing, and if Gillespie isn't retained, then that position is available...

I remember MA making a few comments about Canero needing to 'settle in down here' and being quite young etc. I know that was a while ago but it suggests that maybe he just wasn't up to the move, I know all pro footballers move about but I think this was Canero's first time away from home/Scotland/Killie. Maybe he's just not mentally strong enough and took it badly? That's my cod-psychology for you anyway ;)

I agree, and on what little I can recall of seeing him (I've been to an odd assortment of matches these last two seasons) he's seemed happy going forwards and might fill the RM role.

I've always been in favour of players playing in their best positions where possible (Maybury at right-back, for one). Is he more RB or RM? If he's just a RB who can get forward in a supporting role, then he'll have to join a long queue. If he's really got it in him to attack and get over crosses, then that's a different matter...

Opinions?

That makes a lot of sense Louise and would explain a few things.

A good point. People react to big changes in their lives in different ways. The cricketer Steve Harmison has openly admitted his form overseas and away from Durham suffers, simply because he gets homesick.

Perhaps it's just not meant to be for him at the moment?

I thought he was the biz at Charlton away last season playing on the right wing. If he ever plays like that again for a sustained period of time then we have our right winger sorted for next season. Unfortunately that seems to have been a one-off and he's actually a million miles away from the first team. Sad cos I think he's pretty decent.
