FNQ Posted 29 April 2005 Posted 29 April 2005 Ooh, cant wait! It litterally CANT be as boring and depressing as this season.
Hutber's Law Posted 29 April 2005 Posted 29 April 2005 Am feeling full of optimism too although the legacy of Micky Adams 'new squad every year' approach could yet scupper us. Think off the top of my head we only have two (Walker and Stewart?) who've played over a hundred games for us. That's just frightning. I believe that the time being given to the squad to bed in will start to bear fruit although we do still need more quality, that's for sure. I do feel with Maybury, Hughes, McCarthy et al that we have the basis of a good team here.

Just hope i'm proved wrong... -To be fair though last 2 matches I have been very impressed BUT whats the odd couple of matches here and there in a 40+ games a season league?

Good post.
Frenzied Posted 29 April 2005 Posted 29 April 2005 We need a bit of optimism. Sure this season has been poor due mainly to the upheavals and last summers signings that didn't come off. But over the past three or four months we've seen a steady improvement, culminating in the superb display against the Sheep. Promotion is a real possibility next season but don't forget Levein's plans are to build for the future and the following year may be a more realistic goal. As long as we do well next year I'll be happy. If Levein's summer signings are anything like those so far then we could end up being a very good side; not just one capable of getting promoted but one that could actually stay up in the Premiership.

MDV? Moore? I'm not so confident about the players Levein has signed.

But of the signings so far at least three would seem to be excellent players: Hughes, Maybury and Mcarthy. Kenton looks good, although on loan. Undecided but showing promise: MDV - I know some people don't like him but he's shown signs he's a good player. Moore - Should get to see more of him over the next two games but has done a couple of good things when come on. ie Sunderland Unknown: Kisnorbo Sturm Hirschfeld All of those players were picked up for next to nothing and hopefully more funds will be available with the parachute payment. So far I'm pretty happy with Levein's signings but I'm sure there will be the odd duffer. Even O'Neill didn't get it right all the time.

Fingers crossed its just the one game i'll be missing! At least i'll be here for the pre-season friendly and we always play well in them so thats one good performance i'll see!
step Posted 29 April 2005 Posted 29 April 2005 People are saying we'll get promoted next season Is a mircle gonna happen over the summer then? Just hope i'm proved wrong... There maybe no football for 14 weeks but at least we will find out who CL signes for next summer -To be fair though last 2 matches I have been very impressed BUT whats the odd couple of matches here and there in a 40+ games a season league? The last two matches have been excelent and now we cant be relegated every one think the next two matches are not important. Not true. IMO the next two matches are crucial and CL must achieve the same standard of play in these matches. A good team performance will then become the benchmark for next season and the precedent can now be set over the next two games. If we could end this season with four matches like the last two, the players will start next season full of confidence, on a high and they would have no doubt what is expected from them or what they can achieve.

It was a similar case when Adams took over from Bassett. We didn't lose for several of our last Premiership games, although already relegated. We started the following season in superb form.

Not every season can be a successful one but this has been a memorable one cup-wise for me personally and possibly quite a few others who went to the readings, sat in a tin shed at Charlton and made the 3 hour trip to Blackburn. Those were the best times this season, lets remember those instead of the poor home form and the inconsistancy.
