dandannieldanok Posted 6 July 2009 Author Posted 6 July 2009 Brilliant stage today, what looked like a typical flat stage that would follow the norm pulled up a few surprises just like the Tour does each year. Cavendish won his second stage :D in a breakaway group consisting of all of his brilliant Team Columbia and Lance Armstrong who took vital seconds off his rivals. Already can't wait for the Team Time Trial tomorrow, with the very real prospect of Lance Armstrong ending up in yellow.

Unbelievable, truly didn't think he'd be anywhere near yellow before the tour started. Really did show his nous yesterday by staying at the front of the peloton and tagging onto the Columbia breakway.

Boring, you gotta be kidding. Personally flat stages are boring, but the races in those mountains (where the tour is effectively won) are something else! Armstrong IMO is too old, but I await to be proven incorrect by the great man.

Can hardly blame the bike freaks as the world of the Tour seems to be restricted to those who own the codebooks to its peculiar jargon. Yellow jerseys and green jerseys. 'King of the Mountains'. And the big turn off for those who have just tuned in: The Peloton. Ah yes, The Peloton, that strange wotsit word that the 30 something sports presenter with the flat chest and a 2:2 Media Studies degree cert sticking out her knickers pouts knowingly despite never having heard of it before herself. And if that's not enough to piss you off there's the 'what the fook is going on' palava. Like who's winning and who's not. A casual search or two of a Tour site and you'll soon realise that official race standings don't appear to be a matter of record but rather a word of mouth sort of thing. Does a dodo come on at the end and say 'Everyone has won and all must have prizes'?

Not all of the riders are there to finish 1st. In fact only about 20ish are there to actually realisticly win the timed competition.

Bradley Wiggins deserves far more respect. As Kilworth and Soccerroo have already said, the sport isn't like all others. There's competitions within a competition, it makes it more fascinating than a lot of people realise. Cav is currently far better than anybody else sprinting out there. He may not beat the moaning arsehole Hushovd to the green jersey but all this tour has done is reaffirm that Cav is the best sprinter in the world atm. Stage wins: Cav 4 Hushovd 1, says it all really. And Wiggins is just riding absolutely superbly atm, amazing climb to Verbier yesterday. Couldn't believe my eyes when he was not only sticking with that high quality group, but also trying to attack it. He also did all the work as Nibali and Schleck just sat on his wheel in the last few km. Really hope he ditches the olympics now in favour of the Tour because if he continues to progress he can win it in the next few years. You've got to remember that if this was 2008, when Astana were not present, Wiggins would be yellow jersey now. Brilliant stuff Brad keep going!

Your not wrong i had him pinned as just a time trialest........how wrong have i been. Agree with Shen Contador is a very good Time trialest especially over the longer time trial, also you give a guy a yellow leaders jersey going in to the final time trial of any tour let alone the TDF they grow an extra bit.

Contador already has a cloud as big as the Mont Ventoux over his head with his involvement in Operacion Puerta, and suddenly Wiggins pops out of nowhere very much like Kohl and Rasmussen did. Doping is just a part of the game in cycling, and to be able to compete at the level Wiggins has with the likes of Armstrong, Klöden, Contador and the Schleck brothers, especially as he's never done anything in mountains before, casts huge doubts in my mind.
