Hitesh Posted 24 May 2009 Posted 24 May 2009 Couldn't find a thread to see if its already been posted but was wondering if anyone has tried it. I woudn't download or try it if its your main PC/Laptop but it's worth it if you have a second system. I have installed it on a partition and will be trying it out over the next few days. Review suggest its better than Vista in terms of performance and speed and as far as I can tell thats about right. Easier to install and the startup is much quicker! It's taking a little while to get used to but I think Microsoft have got it right this time around and its more of a complete version of Vista. The Beta runs through until June next year so is definitely worth it and I'm lucky enough to get a free version when it's out! Trial and Info here
lookwhaticando Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 Installed it earlier this afternoon. I have a dual boot machine with Ubuntu 9.04 and previously, Vista Business. My primary computer - a laptop. Vista I used only occasionally, when I was foreced to by the likes of PremiumTV and so on... and it pissed me off every single time. It was getting frustratingly slow and IE8 was failing on me all the time. So for a laugh I decided to ditch Vista today and install Windows 7 instead. It's a vast improvement, so far, it seems. It's much much faster (though a large part of that is doubtless down to the heaps of old crap I had on Vista before I reduced that partition and installed Ubuntu). I'm liking the icon based taskbar when you've got programs running - seems a lot more organized that way. Another thing I've noticed is the Libraries thing... that intrigues me, I'll have to do more with that.
Granno Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 Downloading now. Looks interesting from the stuff I've read about it.
lavrentis Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 Well I have just installed this on a seperate partition and I love it. Much faster and generally better than Vista.
Hitesh Posted 25 May 2009 Author Posted 25 May 2009 Well I have just installed this on a seperate partition and I love it. Much faster and generally better than Vista. Yeah, and it just seems more reliable! Haven't made use of the XP mode yet though, will probably try that out later on!
MarkDeVries Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 I've had this for a quite a while and it is very good. A lot faster and more stable than vista in my opinion. The layout is slicker aswell. Not bad at all
coale39 Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 I think version will get people still on XP to upgrade.
Darkzzz_ Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 Sounds very promising will have to upgrade if it is as good as people as saying.
Craig Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Installed this a week or so ago. At first it was a bit strange, but now i love it. I'd definately recommend it
Granno Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 I love it. Pisses all over Vista in terms of...everything really.
Fox92 Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 Going to get it then after the responses on here There also bringing out Office 10 for next year.
Hitesh Posted 12 June 2009 Author Posted 12 June 2009 Going to get it then after the responses on here There also bringing out Office 10 for next year. Hopefully a Beta in Autumn this year...
Leicfox Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 I installed Windows 7 RTM X86 yesterday and fully activated it using a programme called 7loader. I must say what others have said, it's great. It's what Vista should of been without all the bugs. Loving it'.
lavrentis Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Anyone pre-ordering this? Might do it but trying to look for it cheap.
Anish Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Pre-ordered it for £45 when the first lot of pre-orders became available. Hopefully it will live up to all the hype because I've simply bought it based on other people's recommendations. Can't stand Vista either.
Unit Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 My brother got me it free because he used to go to uni so got a free download.. It's brilliant.
coale39 Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 My brother got me it free because he used to go to uni so got a free download.. It's brilliant. Whats this about a free download?
Hitesh Posted 19 September 2009 Author Posted 19 September 2009 Whats this about a free download? You can get it through MSDN and if your Uni/Work gives licenses as part of this then you can get it free. I can get it all through work so I have the full versions of any MS product through there - its pretty awesome tbh with unlimited licenses for everything too!
lavrentis Posted 19 September 2009 Posted 19 September 2009 Pre ordered it for £64.68 of Amazon. Hopefully it will be worth it.
Budweiser Posted 19 September 2009 Posted 19 September 2009 Pre ordered it for £64.68 of Amazon. Hopefully it will be worth it. It is. Better than Vista anyway!
lavrentis Posted 19 September 2009 Posted 19 September 2009 It is. Better than Vista anyway! Aye, I have tried the RC and downloaded the RTM but I always end up buying OS's. Vista ran well on my PC but I was impressed with Windows 7.
Darkzzz_ Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Will get mine ordered this week. Looks great.
lavrentis Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Will get mine ordered this week. Looks great. Amazon is the cheapest I found but if you find anywhere cheaper obviously go for that.
