Thracian Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 It seems that my new apartment in the International City, Dubai should be finished by the end of next year. Although the City is, to some extent, English speaking, I'd like to learn enough Arabic to get by. Any advice as the the most effective approach?
Finnegan Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 How many of the local working class did it take to be exploited for your immigrant ass then Tone?

My apartment will be bought and paid for adding funds to the economy. The local workforce is currently fully employed on building what is an extensive development overall, the apartment will provide rentable living quarters for some of the multitude of construction workers and/or tourists busy in or visiting Dubai and I will personally have a base suitable for the further development of my business and to live in when I or my friends and family visit what is a fascinating place on holiday. Where immigration comes into it I've no idea.

Guest Bilo Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 Not a cheap way, but by all accounts a very effective way of learning a language. Learn Arabic - Rosetta Stone
James. Posted 25 May 2009 Posted 25 May 2009 I used the Michel Thomas CD course to improve my French. I'd highly recommend it, great for grasping the basics of speaking the language, if not reading and writing. I don't know how well his methods will translate to teaching Arabic, but may be worth a try.

I got taught it at school as I lived in the Middle East for two years when I was younger, forgot most of it now though. It's a hard language to learn, especially with the different alphabet and spelling the words backwards.
Thracian Posted 25 May 2009 Author Posted 25 May 2009 Thanks for the guidance. I shall try to make good use of it.
Thracian Posted 25 May 2009 Author Posted 25 May 2009 You gonna try and learn belly dancing as well? Having watched that lass on Britain's Got Talent the other night, of the many and varying requirements needed I have just one - and that's the belly. It's not enough!

I wasn't suggesting that you were . I was just so surprised that after all these years of Blair/ Brown heaping economic misery upon you , that you are still in a position to be able to make such massive overseas investments . Assuming you are so much worse off than under the previous administration , You must have been mega rich during the Thatcher years . i am really only having a little joke best of luck and don't forget to put on plenty of factor 30 whilst you're out there
Thracian Posted 26 May 2009 Author Posted 26 May 2009 I thought that was you practising? You should have gone to Specsavers!

You couldn't buy a prefabricated garage in London for what my little bedsit has cost. b) I've never been mega rich, or even rich - and never will be while Barbar's costs what it does. c) Yes, I gather it gets hot. I'm planning to wear a portable sprinkler.
Alexikokopops Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 My granddad taught me all the Arabic he knew, which was the numbers 1-5, "money" and "young lady". It doesn't take much to work out what he got up to when he was stationed in Libya/Palestine
