The Reverend Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Okay, so I was walking along and dropped my car keys, and the car key split in half. I picked the bits uo and put it back together, went to my car to go, and the engine management light was flashing. Obviously something was missing. So had a look around on the internet, it seems i've lost the transponder chip, which is why it wont start. So, does anyone have any ideas? The most obvious choice is to call a Vauxhall dealership, but I haven't got a spare key so it is literally immobilized. What are the options? I know I can get a new key myself and get somebody to programme it, anyone know anyone who does this. Or I could get one of those auto locksmiths that come out and sort it all out. Anyone got any advice or suggestions as I am prety stuck really. Cheers.
StanSP Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 To be honest, it would be best just to go to your dealership. Or at least call their service department.

AoWW Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Good luck with contacting the Vauxhall dealership. I had to do this a couple of years ago when I lost my car keys. They quoted an extortionate amount. Having said that, it makes sense to contact them first... just be prepared for a shock re cost!

Theyre going to have to recover it aswel as I have no spare key. Not looking good.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Just a side note. Check how much the extra key is from Vauxhall then check Bouldings on Green Lane Road. They can do you a spare. Pretty cheap normally, I think they can reprogramme from scratch as well. Worth a phone call at least.
The Reverend Posted 26 May 2009 Author Posted 26 May 2009 Oh my god, ive just been to the place where I dropped the keys, found something chip like, put it in the key, the engine management system light stopped flashing and I literally almost jizzed all over the windscreen! Started fine and I've just drove it home. So fecking happy. Saved myself some serious moula.
AoWW Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Maybe now is the time to get a spare? He probably doesn't want to spend upwards of £200.
DB11 Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 He probably doesn't want to spend upwards of £200. £200 for a bloody car key?!
AoWW Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 £200 for a bloody car key?! Well actually I was quoted £240 + VAT, and that was a few years back. I declined and hoped I didn't lose my one and only key. Vauxhall = rip off as far as this is concerned.

coale39 Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Why don't you just get a copy made? Like when you get a key cut down town. Not just a key. Some cars (including mine) need a chip present inside the key for the engine to start.
CosbehFox Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Why don't you just get a copy made? Like when you get a key cut down town. Cos they are part electrical. I suggest you have a knowsy in the Yellow pages and get a few prices off the car leccy's.
DeclanMC Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Gone are the days where you could just find somebody with the same car as you!
