lou Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Kids can make a game out of anything so the treadmill could well have been off, we don't know. We don't know the layout of their house or anything so we really shouldn't comment on the circumstances but just comment on the tragedy. You cannot keep your eye on children 24 hours a day, it's impossible in normal life. Agreed and this sort of accident could happen to anyone, its no time to be laying blame or cracking jokes about it IMO. She was in her own home and not left wandering the streets. There were adults in the house apparently its just one of those things. RIP and I feel for the family.
Guest Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Kids can make a game out of anything so the treadmill could well have been off, we don't know. I've seen kids messing around on stuff like this at our gym. The silliest one was a boy, no more than about 7, trying to run backwards on a treadmill. I just hope that the parents are now more vigilant, as I've been saying for months that there's an accident waiting to happen here. It's a shame that it takes a tragic accident for people to take notice. As Katy said, we don't know the full circumstances, and we don't know the layout of the Tyson home, but I'm pretty certain that both Mike and his wife will be going through absolute hell right now, even if they had taken every step possible to stop their kids messing around with the treadmill. A totally kid-proof house would have nothing in it!

You have to let kids live a little, make mistakes, have slight accidents, come into contact with germs etc else how else are they going to cope in the real world when they grow up. Just because Tyson has been an idiot in the past, it doesn't make him a bad dad now.

Does this count as a slight accident? http://news.uk.msn.com/world/article.aspx?...entid=147616830 I know - I'm being petty - and it's an extreme. But how clumsy must you be to leave a .45 handgun lying around for kids to pick up?
Guest Bilo Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Quite! Just because Tyson has been an idiot in the past, it doesn't make him a bad dad now. Exactly. His horrible upbringing will if anything have made him more determined to give his kids a good life. He may be about as far removed from an angel as it it possible to be, but that doesn't mean he can't be a good father. The poor bloke and the mother of his daughter must be going through absolute hell right now, and it certainly isn't right to cast aspersions on his parenting skills when we don't know the whole truth.

This is not quite the same as having generally save things in your house that in certain circumstances could be dangerous. Kids can fall off things, pull things over, stick hands in things, spill drinks on things. The list is endless.

I'm glad you said you were being petty It is ridiculous though, you have to try and think like a child in order to see what could possibly be a danger within the home and remove it. Bleach bottle = pop, tablets = sweets etc etc.

hairy Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Agreed and this sort of accident could happen to anyone I had a friend die when I was 15 in similar circumstance. He was having a shower in the bath, slipped and got his neck caught in the cord hanging from the window blind whilst falling and effectively hung himself. RIP Rich.
