"Such an odd thing happened two days ago that I thought I'd tell it here and see the response (if any). I was cleaning my car in the street and I had seen a police car pulled up further down the road for ages with a couple of coppers talking to some youths. Eventually, the youths dispersed and went on their way and suddenly the cop car pulled up opposite me and a very young looking copper got out and came over looking a tad embarrassed. He said "excuse me mate, sorry to trouble you but do you think there is any chance I could use your loo?" I was a bit surprised to say the least but said yes he could and he followed me to my house but when my missus heard us coming in she asked what was going on and I told her he needed the toilet and she said "fine, but can you take your shoes off please!". He looked horrified and said that he couldn't, he wasn't allowed to!! There was a few seconds awkward silence and then this young copper literally started jigging from foot to foot saying "please, it's an emergency!" My missus (who is somewhat house-proud, to put it mildly), said "hold on a minute then, let me just put some newspaper down" - I have to say his boots did look muddy - and as she disappeared momentarily to get the paper, the bright red-faced cop was almost bobbing up and down and he suddenly said "Oh God, leave it , leave it, don't worry...!" and he turned and ran back to the car, got to the vehicle and stood there, leaning on the open door for about thirty seconds with his mate still inside the car. Eventually, he gingerly got into the passengers seat and they drove off, leaving me and the missus astonished at what we had just seen. I'm still not entirely sure what happened and whether the story is funny, embarrassing or just plain daft (I'm sure someone here will tell me!) but it does go down as one of the more bizzare encounters with the boys in blue, don't you think?" A "did-he-or-didn't he"?
davieG Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Why aren't the cops allowed to take their shoes off? I guess because it puts them out of action, not that pissing your pants has you ready for anything.

That's a fair enough point if you are wearing boots with about twenty lace-holes - the type that take about half an hour to lace-up but most coppers these days seem to wear those magnum-type boots that look as if they slip on and off without a military style operation. Anyway, even if he was in someone's house in his socks and they got a call, it wouldn't be overly difficult to put his shoes back on in the car, would it? I suspect it's one of these overly-rigorous 'health and safety' regulations that seem to rule everyone's lives!! However, as DavieG says - what a choice though, in his predicament??
