Fox92 Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 Well, at 6ft2 he'll add needed height to midfield. With Oakley, Wellens and Dyer we are looking quite short; they can't be more than 5ft9. King is tallish but needs to fill out if he wants to muscle-in. Got to agree with you there Oakley, Wellens and King are most proably going to be the 'main' midfielders but (apart from Wellens as he is a new signing) we don't win many headers and that is a good point. King is a big lad like you mentioned but doesn't seem to win any headers and Oakley dosen't win the many, some from time to time but not many. Wellens is the near enough the same height as Oakley although I cannot possibly comment yet as he currently hasen't played. Thats why I pin-pointed Zheng Zhi as a target, like Carter he is a fairly big midfielder maybe just what we need. Someone like Dickson Ethutu who once did an excellent job in this division for Norwich or maybe even Zheng Zhi (I take it he is still a free transfer) who impressed me at The Walkers when we played Charlton the other year. Obviousley, we aint 'gunna sign Ethutu but someone in that category (a stocky big midfielder) would be nice to play at the side of 'x' - whether it be Oakley, Wellens or even... Clemence

Clemence Zheng Zhi is only 5'11'' and from what I remember isn't particularly large nor the kind of midfielder who can really win headers, more of an attacking role who can play the ball forward, and we have already bought someone in that category in Wellens. If this Carter guy is cheap he might be able to play the kind of role we need in midfield to win the ball in the air.

Although I'd go as far as saying we don't have much physical presence in midfield - including headers. We need someone with attitude in our team. From what I can see, we are a team full of 'nice' players who can turn it on as and when is needed. We're too nice. We need to toughen up. Expect more games like Milwall at home next season. A lot more. Win the physical battle and then let the play take over. It might work the other way round in league one, but it won't in the championship.

He is a great player, someone we need. Surely if Stoke 'aint 'gunna play him we could get him for 1.5 - 2.5million (although he is 29 and next year him and Wellens will be 30 ) - Only 18 apps. for Stoke last year - but they have got about 25 central midfielders.

He hasn't really had a proper run in the side and i've always rated him. I'm pretty sure we could get him in for a reasonable price, age doesn't matter too much at this moment in time for us I don't think, he still has a good 3 years left in him, same as Wellens.
