You've only signed Adebola because he's guaranteed to score against us. <_<

But I'm sorry, that bit about "the experience and sheer numbers blah blah" is total rubbish. Squad building takes years, you can't just sign a load of players and expect to be a winning side. You need to know your best side and you need to stick to it and let them grow together.

I think someone in this thread has already made the link between BD and Martin Allen coming in as a new manager and signing seven bzillion players and it doesn't work.

Keep Earnie fit, mind, and you're always going to have one of the best strikers at Championship level in your arsenal which can't be bad.

I agree but we had no experience, I think our oldest player was 26 or something daft, and about 16 first team players. Mcgugan whilst a decent player had no fear of ever being dropped cos he was our only attacking midfielder. Accordingly he turned up once every four games or so. Smith had no competition at all, to the point we had to register the goalkeeping coach! So something needed to change.

I reckon yourselves and us have made the biggest strides forward this summer. The sheep haven't really strengthened the team that finished one point above us all that much. I suspect tight purse strings over there :D

I don't think we've made massive strides forward. I think we're relying on getting a Swansea / Bristol City style launch up the league off the back of League One success.

And "experience" is overrated, especially when what you call experience is bringing in thirty-plus mercenaries in a Mickey Adams style bid for temporary success.

I was optimistic last summer on behalf of Forest, mostly because they landed Earnie, and they still struggled big time last season. Now they have signed up some of their loan stars from that season and added an experienced midfielder, an interesting but pretty unknown Pole and two decent, but not awe inspiring strikers. On paper, I don't think Forest are that much better than last year, but now they have a bigger squad and have had more time to adjust to the Billy Davies' way, and that makes them stronger.

Of the loans you mention the ones that made a major difference to the season only arrived in the final few months and lead us to having one of the best "current form" in the division. Gunter, Blackstock, Camp (to an extent) and even Lynch who was woeful under Calderwood and pretty handy under Davies (for reasons beyond me).

Davies has given the team the mentality to win even if it's ugly. Personally it did my head in when we started timewasting but at the wrong end of the table 3 points is 3 points. He's changed the atmosphere at the club from playing swanky youthfull football and losing, to winning anyhow we can.

We desperately needed players with a bit of experience though and as it is we've only signed two that would count as old heads which makes the grand total of oldies at the club......2. Which is fine by me.

Bare in mind, we're the club that signed a knackered Lennon and a useless Cole. We've had our fair share of old duffers.

Do you not think youve gone the same way as when billy was at derby and signed far too many plaers in a short space of time with very little time to settle in together??

I seem to remember someone having a similar idea here two years ago.

This.

Even down to the idea of signing players on the basis of appearances on YouTube.. :o

Quite possibly. I guess the results will tell how successful it's going to be. Our side desperately needed investment though.

I'm hoping BD didn't just find a youtube clip and sign him up (on loan as it happens). He's an international so would be fairly well known. :)

Not sure how many games he'll play though. He's quite tiny and we have quite a few cm as it is.
