Shipman Out Posted 24 July 2009 Posted 24 July 2009 Last year i was trying to suck Forest down to League 1 before Billy Davies got his feet under the table and a few transfer windows done in the Championship. Cos look what there doing this summer spending big AND well he knows this league inside out and i think there time for flirting with relegation is over i hope im prooved wrong but i think they are gonna do well there buying strikers and of different types McGoldrick, Adebola and Blackstock to add to Tyson also bought McKenna and a right back i think we should of gone for in Gunter plus they bought a good keeper in Lee Camp (all the posistions we needed!) plus they have some Polish international geezer(ski) on loan. Damn then Dam Davies. Ithink they will do well and i might just beginning to panic about Forest away

We should have no fear anymore. Wouldn't go that far... Forest have spent more money than us (not hard tbh), but we'll see what happens when the season starts. I think it's hard to say they've 'spent well' when the season hasn't even started yet. Their signings do look more promising than ours, but again that's not hard as we've hardly flashed any cash (yet) or brought in any big names for this level. Anyway, what Forest are doing in the transfer window doesn't concern me more than other clubs...

Your right once the new season kicks off last season is done with West Brom were Champions im sure Hull and Stoke are gutted. Im no more bothered about Forest its Cov i hate but they seem to be spending well on players in posistions we need just a comparison really

Blackstock is average McGoldrick is average McKenna only has a couple of years left in him. they may have spent big but they've not spent it on anyone worth spending on.

Has sixteen full international caps, is twenty - not some teenage child - and was trusted with first team football at a decent Cardiff side. Jog on.

I don't think he's any better then Paul Smith anyway but after that penalty save some Forest fans seem to think he amazing. Even though it was his clanger for QPR that gifted us a goal. The bargain of the off-season for us was Meltons finest Paul Anderson for 250k. IMO our best buy was Gunter for 2m, he's 19 and spurs paid 3m for him not too long ago. Our many forwards all have different attributes which should cause any defence a problem if Billy picks the right pair for the opposition. Might be tricky keeping all 6 of them happy though.

Jog on. He was amazing (well, as amazing as a full back can be) for us on loan at the end of last year. Easily able to play above ccc level.

Majewski maybe a very clever signing provided he can settle.

We've only got that youtube and his performance on wednesday to go by but he seems a nippy midfielder with an eye for a clever pass and a decent shot. Apparently according to Polish reds he's become a bit of a billy BB and probably needs to go somewhere where he's not the star performer. Could go one of two ways. Our forward line has real competition and variety so if someone slacks off he can be replaced without too much fuss. Blackstock did well on loan but most players do when the're playing for a contract. I'm happy that we've got some variety.

I would also take Chris Gunter and Paul McKenna - McKenna is a great signing one of the divisions best midfielders and I cannot believe that Preston actually let him go. No comment on Adebola but Blackstock and the lad from Southampton - McGoldrick - are two good championship strikers.

And just because you're not "as good" as Bale it certianly doesn't make you a poor attacker. He's strong and faaaairly quick going forward and puts in some good balls. I like him, he's one of my favourite prospects for the national side. (I'm Welsh / a Wales fan if you hadn't guessed.)

Squad building takes years, you can't just sign a load of players and expect to be a winning side. You need to know your best side and you need to stick to it and let them grow together. I think someone in this thread has already made the link between BD and Martin Allen coming in as a new manager and signing seven bzillion players and it doesn't work. Keep Earnie fit, mind, and you're always going to have one of the best strikers at Championship level in your arsenal which can't be bad.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 24 July 2009 Posted 24 July 2009 Billy Davies is a very, very good Championship manager. I always thought Claderwood was crap and very lucky to even get them up. If that had of been us the year they lost 5-2 to Yeovil at home in the playoffs I would have wanted the manager gone. But Davies came in and we all knew they would then not go down. He is very good at assembling a Championship squad, but did not buy well for Derby in the Prem in my opinion. He likes the big man up front, so in comes Adebola, like he did at Derby by signing Howard. He buys good midfielders for this league as well, so in comes McKenna the PNE captain. Again similar when he signed Oakley for Derby from the Saints. He makes his teams very hard to beat and even though I don't feel he plays negative football like Megson did at WBA, his teams go to places and nick 1-0. I expect them to be up there like hopefully we will. All East Midlands teams wil do well, as Derby have got some good players too and I hope the league will be dominated by the Midlands, but of course us coming out on top. While Cov, who again have sold their best player will be down with the S****horpes, and Barnselys of this division.
Jonezy Posted 24 July 2009 Posted 24 July 2009 I was optimistic last summer on behalf of Forest, mostly because they landed Earnie, and they still struggled big time last season. Now they have signed up some of their loan stars from that season and added an experienced midfielder, an interesting but pretty unknown Pole and two decent, but not awe inspiring strikers. On paper, I don't think Forest are that much better than last year, but now they have a bigger squad and have had more time to adjust to the Billy Davies' way, and that makes them stronger.
