I'll be part of the media team for this, going to different locations (well, just the swimming) to get stories and send them back to the head of the media, who will then distribute them out to the press agencies.

For example, the quote in the opening post, I actually saw being created.

I also met (well saw and got very close to, the following people)

Birch- well y'know

Gordon Brown

Sarah Brown

The CEO of the Special Olympics, who is the nephew if JFK and brother-in-law of Arnold Schwarzenegger (I actually educated him on LCFC in the media suite, because he was cutious about our logo)

New Beautiful South

Lawrie McMennamy

John Sinclair- just cos

That's aboot it.

BILL ANDERSON! :P

Big fan of the way you put Birch above Gordon Brown :P

I'm an ambassdor for this event and will be presenting medals at New College on Thursday afternoon.

It was a fantastic opening ceremony, although a little prolonged. The athletes seemed to enjoy themselves.

I note that Ian C made no mention of meeting Mandaric or Walshy.. :o

You know what Ultr, I was so star struck with JFK's nephew and GoBo that I forgot Mandaric.

I saw him as we were waiting for GoBo (I'm gonna push that name) to leave, he got into his car, but there was a lorry in the way so he couldn't get out! severe ownage

Unfortunately I didn't get close or near to Steve Walsh... I was also told that Martin Johnson was there, but again, must have missed him :|

Day One over... and already my first yellow.

I also gave a penalty for handball on the line, but in actual fact it hit his chest. My only mistake though.

Ey come on. My only mistake and I can assure you now, the players made many more mistakes than I. It's my pre season too to get back into the swing of things!! Even if it is an Olympic event.....

But I acknowledgemistake, which was bad.

Am I shooting myself in the foot saying it was the deciding goal in a 2-1 result, with two minutes remaining.

That's a pretty big mistake lol

Debatable.

Today and tomorrow are "grading" games, in which teams play each other and get graded a skill level for the main competition on Tuesday, where it becomes competitive

I don't get it, if you know it was a mistake now, surely you knew it was a mistake then? But if you thought it was the right decision then, surely you think it's right now?

Unless you've seen a video of it or something.

At the time, I thought it was handball. But then the path the ball took, as well as their reactions, put doubt into my mind but I'd already blew. After the game, my assistant referee (far side), as well as another referee, said that they thought it hit his chest too :(

Today was slightly better. But what really annoyed me is that, in the last minute, the two best teams were playing each other. I gave a free kick just inside the defending team's half, and the player hoofs it, and it lobs the goalkeeper. 4-3 and then full time just after kick is taken.

The manager comes up at the end saying how I've "cost them twice in two days" (the first was disallowing a goal, which was clearly offside, in the last minute yesterday) and, he was fine with the free kick, but he said that all free kicks in a team's own half are indirect. I was like whatever... I did have to double check the competition rules though!! Fortunately, I was right! :D

I've spent the last day and a half at New College meeting with the athletes, their families, staff and spectators.

All of them appreciated the work that was done to make the event a success. Sport has played a massive role in transforming these athletes' lives.

And a lot of folk will return to their home areas with a VERY positive impression of Leicester - and the Way in particular..:thumbup:

WELL Done to EVERYONE involved with The Special Olymics(Even you Ultra!!! :D ).

I tried to become a volnteer for it,but it was oversubscribed which proves they are popular not just for the athletes but mere mortals willing to help out a little.
