Anyone know how to set up a router with a cable modem?

Seriously pissing me off now. Rang Virgin and they fluffed me off for half an hour and then hung up, so that's £12 they're robbing me of.

It's really hard, do I put an Ethernet cable from the modem to the router, and then another one from the router to the laptop to set it up? The instructions are bloody useless.

i would assume it'd go:

phone line > modem > router > pc

erthernet cables are the desired cable, apparently, so i'd use two, if you only have one use a usb

Why do you want a modem and a router? Router will connect to the net by itself

Are you trying to set up a network with the router?

Cable from modem should go in the port on its own WAN (usually back left as you look at the front)

Then a cable from one of the LAN ports to the laptop. You can get into the router by typing 192.168.1.1 in the navigation bar on IE.

If you're only using one computer, then you don't need the router.

However, if you are connecting more than one, connect your cable coming into the house to the modem. Connect the modem to the router into the modem input. All other computers, printers use the other ports 1 thru x depending on how many you have. You'll need ethernet cables do make these connections.

Networking is a whole new venture and you'll need to use the Windows networking wizard which will involve file and printer sharing priviledges.

Good luck it can be a nightmare.

I have to wait until I get a new one.

We have 1 PC and we want to play the Xbox online at the same time.

Simple pimple.

Not sure about X Box but my son has a PS 3 connected wirelessly to his router, works a treat  I see you can get an adapter if yours doesn't have it, not cheap though :(
