Porky Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 Link Press a button, alert a store detective..win a grand!
BoneDog Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 Loads of people will be doing this soon. And I bet it will be hard to get any money cos about 200 people will spot the same crime at the same time and all try to claim. And even if you are the first to press the button the sites owners could just say someone beat you to it and not pay up. It will be free security help for superstores
Scow Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 The sort of thing we've come to expect from New Labour.
Webbo Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 The supermarket where my wife works only has one security guard, if it's not his shift they don't have anybody. There's blatant shoplifting going off there and nobody to stop it.
Zingari Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 Leicester has a fine tradition of shoplifting . I was once apprenticed to Lady Isobel Barnett , one of the all time greats among the gentlefolk shoplifters . It seems this will be the end of another fine tradition
dandannieldanok Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 You have to pay to submit the report though. Plus once you do this you become a witness to the crime and depending on the scale of crime could see you end up in the middle of a court case. Not worth the hassle.
ramboacdc Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 whats this? rewarding money for grassing up your fellow man? wheres stalin then?
sdb Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 The sort of thing we've come to expect from New Labour. It's not a Labour idea it's a private company, didn't you read the article?
Scow Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 It's not a Labour idea it's a private company, didn't you read the article? I didn't suggest it was a New Labour idea. I was merely highlighting that this is the sort of scheme New Labour condones.

Guest Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 Er, where does your wife work? And what shifts does the security guard work? There's always one opportunist

There's blatant shoplifting going off there and nobody to stop it. Tight buggers. If I was the manager I'd pay someone £300 a week to watch folks. Surely they will lose more money in stolen goods than they would by employing one or two more guards?

Hmm... typical... people are more than willing to get on the governments back when things are hyped up in the media as being terrible yet seem to completely gloss over any good things they do. And you watch, 3-4 years down the line, they'll be doing exactly the same to the next government in power, presumably the Tories considering how things are going at the moment.

I agree, but if they're too tight to pay somebody to guard the store then serves the b@stards right.

This is not simply a reaction to 'media hype' - it's a response to the alarming Orwellian nature of this government. Far from being a fun-loving Tory, at least they're not proposing identity cards and a system to record every email/phone call.
