Tabou Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Anybody going this season? Exactley 79 days till I do, driving to Samoens in France. I think I'm almost looking forward to this more than Christmas (almost...). So anyone going anywhere?
AoWW Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Brrrrrrr *shivers*. Skiing always strikes me as being far too cold to be enjoyable.
Simo86 Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 I think I'm off to Andorra at some point. I've not booked it yet though.
Shrenchel Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Pricks with sticks. Depends how much money Ive got left after Christmas. On a sliding scale of minted to brassic, either going Snowbombing, Zermatt, Val d'isere or Castleford Xscape. I think I'm off to Andorra at some point. I've not booked it yet though. You been before? If you're any good I wouldn't really bother mate. More shit blues than portman road.
Wycombe Fox Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Anybody going this season? Exactley 79 days till I do, driving to Samoens in France. I think I'm almost looking forward to this more than Christmas (almost...). So anyone going anywhere? I'm jealous! We've been to Morillon 1100 (a couple of miles form Samoens) four times in the last three years and it's brilliant! We're not going this winter as Mrs Isle of Wight Fox wants a 'warm' holiday. We live near a beach so the rest of us want to go ski-ing! If you're fairly competent, get the full Grand Massif lift pass, head off to Flaine and get right up the top to the Grand Platieres. Also be sure to do the Marvel run from the Sairon lift - it's only a green run but it's good fun. Which ferry route are you taking? Would recommend LD Lines from Portsmouth to Le Havre. I think it sails at 11.00pm which gets you to Le Havre about 7.30am next day. We've made it to Morillon in 7 hours from Le Havre. If you need any other advice, let me know.
Hawkers Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Going snowboarding with a couple of mates to Bansko in Bulgaria in 6 weeks! definitely looking forward to it more than Christmas. Return flight to sofia was £99 and an apartment for 10 nights only 80 squid each, bulgaria is sooo cheap
Lillehamring Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 i'm determined to give it another try this winter - i'm not upto slalom, so it will be cross country for me again... the only problem i have is i get inflamation on my achilles - anyone know a good method to protect it? ....anyway i can take a bus from the corner of my street to the ski runs, so i have no excuse for not trying

I have but most of the people I'm going with haven't. My mates parents have a villa there so, the accomodation is free which is another reason we're going there. I usually go to Austria.

I went to Samoens last year, good place. Did Flaine a couple of times, but didnt get the Full Grand Massif pass as we were only there for 4 days and it whited out 2 of those... We're driving to Folkestone and getting the Chunnel to Calais. Not done a drive for a couple of years, last time we did I watched Godfather 1,2 and 3, but this year apparently I have to share the driving with my Stepdad, but still, get to drive his Range Rover so all good! But I'd rather sit in teh back, watch films and get excited. I've boarded since I was like 6, and skied a couple of times, but after last year, Snowboarding lost out to Skiing, and to be honest, alot of resorts really aren't boarder-friendly, Samoens being one with all the flat spots and relatively long distance from life tops to piste... I'll still take my board though incase we get any decent powder (and it cost me £380 so i need to make the most of it). Staying in the new MGM apartments this year in Samoens, did that a couple of years ago in Les Houches, and they were lovely....
Fosse Boy Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Brrrrrrr *shivers*. Skiing always strikes me as being far too cold to be enjoyable. Was absolutely boiling when I went! Only been once, went Bormio in Italy with the school (think it was the same year they did the world championships there). Loved every minute.

I've heard of people wearing support stockings on long flights cos they get swelling of the lower limbs so that could help.
AjcW Posted 26 November 2009 Posted 26 November 2009 Brrrrrrr *shivers*. Skiing always strikes me as being far too cold to be enjoyable. Ive done it twice in january and ive always come back with a cracking suntan... usually end up taking layers off when your on the mountain aswell. Its like with any sport you warm up in seconds and because your so high up the sun is warmer.
