chesterfox Posted 8 December 2009 Posted 8 December 2009 How is it ridiculous? 2 FA Cups before Clough means you had exactly the same cup count as those other world-famous giants of the game known to the world and his wife as Bury. MASSIVE. I repeat once more. Forest were a small club before Clough, an unfashionable ragged bunch from an unremarkable city in the East Midlands. Sound familiar? You admit as much when you say you were a 'Stoke' before Clough arrived. If Stoke won the Champions League next season, could they be classed alongside Liverpool and Manchester United as English giants. They'd be a fair few FA Cups and league titles short of such a status, much like yourselves. The only clubs in England I would define as massive (i.e. Real, Barca, Inter, AC and Bayern equivalent) are those two clubs. As for big clubs; Villa, Tottenham and Everton enjoy lofty positions in the Premiership for a reason. I digress. Forest's extraordinary success under Clough's tenure was nothing short of miraculous given they were playing against far bigger fish. The fact is that Forest were never 'massive', if they were Clough would have been able to build on their success in Europe and turn the club into a real force. If Forest were truly massive, they would probably have been able to compete in the Premiership, would not have gone down to the second tier with relegation to the third tier followed by a three year stay unthinkable without a Leeds style financial cataclysm. All that has happened since Clough left the City Ground is that Forest have returned to their natural level of mediocre second tier side, much like the other Midlands clubs I mentioned earlier. You accuse me of acting like a jealous kid, seems to me the only person behaving as a child is you with your 'my dad's bigger than your dad' mentality towards our respective histories when the blunt truth is that in the eyes of the football world, the two of us are just snot-nosed kids not yet ready to mix it with the big boys. well said Bilo - your argument makes perfect sense to me - I'm afraid whilst wanting an intellectual debate this is why I can nevr be bothered with morons like Pscycho because he is just a wind up merchant who cannot even counter in a debate properly. He is a F****T FAN and that is where he should go back to.

RedHux Posted 8 December 2009 Posted 8 December 2009 On a brighter note it was good to see so many Asians in our end on Saturday. I group of four tried to sell me a spare ticket they had! Perhaps they just wanted rid and didn't care if they sold it to someone quite clearly wearing a forest shirt.
lcfc_jme Posted 8 December 2009 Posted 8 December 2009 On a brighter note it was good to see so many Asians in our end on Saturday. Yeahhh.. I'll happily take a pasting and abysmal performance every week so long as it increases cultural integration in our away ends. Superb stuff.

iancognito Posted 9 December 2009 Posted 9 December 2009 Oh dear. Another Forest fan who thinks he supports the English Real Madrid.Just to let you in on a little secret, Clough's achievements with you were admired because he achieved them with a small and unfashionable club, He took a mediocre second tier side to domestic and European glory. Liverpool won back-to-back European Cups immediately before you yet Liverpool fans don't just go on about 77 and 78. Why do you think that is? A clue coming up: 1981, 1984 and 2005. Or to put it in blunt terms, they've no need to witter on about those two successes as they have another three to go with them. That's what I call a massive club, not the very epitome of a flash in the pan like their successors in 79. Meanwhile Forest never hit the heights of the early 80s again thereafter, and have reverted to exactly what they were when Clough arrived. A mediocre second-tier side, dwarfed by the true giants of the game. If you had half a chance of returning to those heights of 79 and 80, you'd have every right to think yourselves massive. The fact is, that in 2009, you don't and are therefore no bigger than any other Midlands club in the Championship with a half-decent fanbase and this includes ourselves, Derby and West Brom. As I've said before, we know where we are in the game. Learn the same and stop thinking yourselves 'world-famous'. Best post I've ever read on here. Didn't even need the justification a few posts later. Had Forest been that massive spending 3 years in 3rd division mediocrity would have had them in administration and selling off all their players but as it was, they seemed to find their level. To which the reply is "you're not famous anyway".*yawn* I think that's the point. We know. For the record Redhux, you're about the most sensible Forest fan I've heard/read. There's hope for the other 17,999 regulars yet. ridiculous, keep telling yourself if it makes you feel better we already had one 2 FA cups before clough came, i think you are still waiting for your 1st arent you? /english_trophies_chart_p.gif"]http://billsportsmaps.com/wp-content/uploa...ies_chart_p.gif[/url] Wow. You're really digging into the past. It'll be the record 12-0 defeat next. It's about as relevant as those Motty MOTD stats like "Burnley haven't won at Everton for 64 years" ignoring the fact that Burnley haven't played at Everton in those 64 years. As silver linings go, it's down there with Gerry and Kate getting to work on their sun tans for a few weeks longer.
