Chandler Posted 20 May 2005 Author Posted 20 May 2005 From reading the posts. everyone seams happy with our current strikers. I think we need someone in the same mold as Peter Crouch up front alongside Connoly. I'm sure that someone that fits that description can be found.
Mark Posted 20 May 2005 Posted 20 May 2005 From reading the posts. everyone seams happy with our current strikers. Can city afford to wait and see? 112293 Do they? I don't think anyone is step, i'm just hoping we bring in another striker to play alongside Connolly, i just can't see us going into the season hoping De Vries starts performing like a striker I think we need someone in the same mold as Peter Crouch up front alongside Connoly. I'm sure that someone that fits that description can be found. 112314 I think we need to take a look at the promoted teams. Wigan - Ellington and Roberts Sunderland - Elliott and Stewart West Ham - Harewood and Zamora Preston - Nugent and Cresswell PACE. I personally have had enough of seeing some bulky tall slow striker up front trying to win headers, pretending to be a striker partner. The size doesn't matter, at all, IF the two strikers can read each others game, and strike a good partnership up together. Sunderland is the perfect example, a few years ago they played the same horrible football as we did. This season, they went up as champions, neither of their first choice strikers were over 6 foot, although Chris Brown did start to make more starts towards the end of the season.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 21 May 2005 Posted 21 May 2005 You're good at dodging the most difficult questions Chandler. Ever been or thought of being a politician?

Could you enlighten everyone as to what difficult questions I am evading?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 21 May 2005 Posted 21 May 2005 Levein's policy of recruiting en masse from the SPL is seriously flawed. The native talent is rarely better than Division I level and the overseas players develop appalling habits both on and off the ball. I might be wrong here, but I don't believe anyone else is doing this. Notably, no Scottish managers based in England are doing this. And that should be a warning to us all... 111280 There is a minor flaw in this idea of yours and that is based upon where CL signed the players from originally. So far we have seen McCarthy and Kenton come in from English clubs, plus the Sturm effort from slovenia. You then base your idea on Hughes, Maybury, Devries and Kisnorbo. If we signed Maybury from leeds, De vries from Dordrecht 90 and Kisnorbo from South Melbourne. This leaves Hughes from the SPL, who played over 60 times for one of the 2 clubs in the SPL which which get some credit south of the border. You would have to base your arguements on CL signing unknown foreigners maybe, or players that are not first team, top flight regulars for thier previous club. This point about signing players from the SPL is as short-sighted as it is pointless. 111417 Also, you'd have to rate Maybury and Hughes as the two best players at the club currently, which means in reality you're basing your disparaging remarks towards players that arrive from the SPL either solely on Mark de Vries, or also on Kisnorbo who hasn't played for us yet, or prospective signings? Levein knows the Scottish market well, he's made two excellent cheap signings there and he's shown by picking up Paddy McCarthy that he's not afraid to sign players not just from England but who have barely played a first team game. 111586 You're good at dodging the most difficult questions Chandler. Chandler Posted 21 May 2005 Author Posted 21 May 2005 The questions appear only to be known by you so I can't tell you what they are. The truth is of course that there aren't any so stop wasting my time.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 21 May 2005 Posted 21 May 2005 The questions appear only to be known by you so I can't tell you what they are.The truth is of course that there aren't any so stop wasting my time. 112476 Christ, you're more slippery than Portillo. Chandler: "Levein's policy of recruiting en masse from the SPL is seriously flawed. The native talent is rarely better than Division I level" I am asking that surely you'd have to rate Maybury and Hughes as the two best players at the club currently, which means in reality you're basing your disparaging remarks towards players that arrive from the SPL either solely on Mark de Vries, or also on Kisnorbo who hasn't played for us yet? And if it's just by watching a bit of Scottish football every few months on the telly, wouldn't it be better to judge by watching the positive personal impact that Maybury and Hughes have had on our team? Would hate to waste your time but I am genuinely interested in what your opinion on SPL players is based on. Many thanks.

You seem to have forgotten FM that I hail from the dark side of the wall and that I have a deep understanding of the game in Scotland and a much better feel for the SPL than anyone on this board (Barton included). Remember this is the league that has only produced ONE European tournament winner (Aberdeen, Cup Winner's Cup 1983) outside the Auld Firm and no winners of any description since. Remember also this is the league whose national team is rated 86 on the FIFA rankings a full 80 places behind England. Remember this is a league where hardly any of its exports south of the border can command a regular starting place at a Premiership club. As for Maybury and Hughes, fans are easily impressed when they are on the ball. Fans will always talk up the 30 minutes when players such as these impose themselves on a game (particularly when it is at home). But for large chunks of many games particularly away from home these players and others have not only failed to impose themselves, they have gone AWOL. One spectacular goal at Sunderland does not a season make. If we are to get out of this division with our current management style we will need players of a higher standard than normal as they will have to largely motivate themselves for every game. Knowing the Scot's character as I do and the standard and attitude prevelant in the SPL, sourcing this league is not recommended. Which is why no one else does it.

As for slating maybury im not exactly sure what games you have been watching? They have been excellent so far, the couple of goals scored by maybury have been largely ignored by fans when talking about his performances so far this season, they have been a bonus to the other parts of his game. The same can be said for hughes. With regard to your constant drone, wimpering away, about how well you know Levein, how he cannot motivate players. What is this based on? Would you really prefer steve walsh? He who currently motivates business men on a golf course. Whats credentials does he have that even slightly suggests that he could manage this football club? Kevin Keegan was a great motivator but a crap manager, is this the sort of person you want running our club? Im sure this response will either be ignored by you, or by a long paragraph of spurious waffle. Hows about you chillout and provide some sensible reasonable comments. Adams isnt coming back, Steve Walsh will not manage this football club or probably ever manage any club (bar golf club of course ) and you will be stuck with CL for at least another season. If you are right about CL i will be the first to say: "Ah Chandler you are so great your the best. Im so sorry for not publicly stopping the fickle boneheads forcing a more than capable Micky Adams into resigning while acheiving the success he was."
