Matt Posted 9 March 2010 Posted 9 March 2010 Britain's Amir Khan will defend his WBA light-welterweight title against Paulie Malignaggi in New York on 15 May, Golden Boy Promotions has confirmed. The fight will take place at Madison Square Garden and will be Khan's first in the United States. Khan, who won the title last July, had been expected to face Juan Manuel Marquez but that fight fell through. He and Malignaggi are scheduled to meet at a press conference on Tuesday to formally announce the contest. Malignaggi, who lost to Ricky Hatton in 2008, recently avenged a defeat by Juan Diaz last year to re-establish himself as as a world title contender. But he will need to produce something special to beat Khan, who beat Dmitriy Salita in just 76 seconds in a mandatory title defence last December. Rumours circulated for some time about Khan's next fight, with Marquez and Marcos Maidana, the current mandatory challenger, among potential opponents. But after Marquez reportedly turned down an offer to meet Khan, he turned his attention to 29-year-old New Yorker Malignaggi, who is also promoted by the American company. "I'm just going to go in there to do what I normally do and I really think Malignaggi has a style which is going to make me look good," Khan said last month. "He's not at my level. He has a few good wins in America, but it's another fight for me and I'll go there and do what I have to do." Should be a good fight, and a fight I will actually full heatedly want Khan to win as I think Malignaggi is a cock, although a good boxer this will be a real challenge for Khan, and if i'm honest (I'll probably be shot down by Khan biggest fan when I say this) Khan has only ever had 1 serious challenge and he lost it, I can see this ending similar, hope i'm wrong though.
lildave3 Posted 9 March 2010 Posted 9 March 2010 Amir Khan fighting at Madison Square Garden, blimey! Massive oppurtunity for the lad.

Difference this time is that he doesn't hit nearly as hard as Prescot did. Can see him demolishing him inside 3 rounds personally
Matt Posted 9 March 2010 Author Posted 9 March 2010 Difference this time is that he doesn't hit nearly as hard as Prescot did. Can see him demolishing him inside 3 rounds personally Yeah that's true, If I remember correctly when Malignaggi fought Hatton, Malignaggi threw alot of punches but they did nothing.
BoneDog Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Really can't wait for this one. Khan aint happy with Paulie disrespecting the Roach camp! (neither am I but I aint quite hard enough to say oat) ! Malignaggi is gonna get knocked out absolutely no doubt about it. It's just picking a round to bet on that worries me, think I'm going for round 1, maybe 2. As for the Prescott defeat I can't see anything like that happening to Khan again for a long time. He's so much stronger, better and maybe cleverer since then. Freddie Roach the man maaaaan
Samilktray Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Looking forward to this alot more than the Haye fight, although I am looking forward to too but the boxing on show from Khan will be far more entertaining. KING KHAN
BoneDog Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Same here, I not really up for the Haye fight, still gonna watch it though. I got more love for Ruiz than Haye to be honest. I watched Hayes first 10 or so pro fights and he was my favourite boxer for a year or two but not anymore.

KING KHAN Definately, heavyweight boxing is pretty much holding each other for long periods with the odd punch thrown every so often. Much prefer the lighter welterweight fights.
