MC Prussian Posted 16 June 2010 Posted 16 June 2010 ... and I missed it. Well, most of it. It hasn't really sunk in yet. I still cannot believe we actually beat the current European Champions at the 2010 World Cup. I can't believe we kept a clean sheet against one of the arguably best strikeforces in the footballing world. And that with all that assumed crap and/or quality-wise decimated squad that we got. Ottmar Hitzfeld, the magical tactician, has kept it all quiet and worked on a succesful strategy to withstand the pressure during the game. I honestly believed we weren't up for it - that wasn't just a diversion maneuver. I only saw some of the highlights in the second half, including the somewhat comical goal, but surely missed about 95 percent (even though we have a TV in the office). Out of all the days, when I'm doing my longest shift so far and working on a rather time-consuming edit (I was in at 7am and out past 11pm), those ****ers manage to win against the mighty Furia Roja. People were screaming and shouting outside the office building once Webb finally called it quits, cars driving past by, honking like crazy and some neighborhoods here in Zurich were so crammed with people celebrating, no motorized vehicle could get through. I really need to see the replay of the entire match, as I can't comment on the performance. From the little I've seen, we've played our hearts out and caught Spain on the wrong foot. They probably thought it'd be a walk in the park, after going 45+ games unbeaten (during the Confederations Cup in June 2009, the U.S. were the last team to score more goals than Spain) and then we offered the World's Number Two quite a frustration package. Diego Benaglio with a superb performance in goal, despite his recent bad patch at Wolfsburg. Inler one of the best and youngest captains we've ever had - and he's the emergency option, mind you. So when you defend well, you'll eventually get offered chances up front. And that's what we did. Simples. What an effort, well done. I'll save the "I'm proud of you, lads" for later, once we've managed to get a result against Chile and Honduras each. All I can hope for is that Hitzfeld keeps them guys' feet on the ground and their minds focused on the tasks ahead. Satisfied. And looking forward to actually watching a Switzerland match in its entity soon. Now where's that replay?
Samilktray Posted 16 June 2010 Posted 16 June 2010 I hope Switzerland go out still, such a pointless country.
