Guest Bilo Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 does anybody know what will happen to pompey if they lose the case today, will they be kicked out the league Their lawyer says they will be liquidated if they lose the case. So not just out of the league, out of existence. And the possibility of AFC Portsmouth having to start again in the Hampshire League. That'd leave a 23 team Championship before anyone asks.

Narborough_fox Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 HMRC lose High Court case against Portsmouth!
wurmer Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 Shame, it's such a shithole of a place to go for away games - was hoping they would go under.

Maybes Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 We are hardly a club to harp on about rights and wrongs of administration given our past dealings but the amount of debt that Portsmouth FC got themselves into and are still in, is beyond a joke.
Guest Bilo Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 Glad they haven't gone under but agree with what Maybes said. Let's be honest here, if any other type of company owed that amount to creditors they'd have been wound up months ago.
Alexikokopops Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 We are hardly a club to harp on about rights and wrongs of administration given our past dealings but the amount of debt that Portsmouth FC got themselves into and are still in, is beyond a joke. It's true that we're hardly ones to harp on, but our administration was due to us expecting to stay in the Prem, getting relegated, and being lumbered with a stadium we couldn't really afford. As far as I'm aware we never got in the situation where our wages were more than our turnover while we were still getting Premiership television money, which however you look at it is totally and utterly ridiculous. Still, you never want to see a club go under, so I'm happy in that respect.
filbertway Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 Can't see any big clubs ever being in any danger of going out of existance, as soon as the fans start pulling at the heart strings then it's always forgiven and forgotten. I'm not saying I would like to see a team go out of business completely, there needs to be preventative measures brough in to stop this kind of over spending though. Maybe make each team present to the league how much they plan to spend and how much income they plan on making, then put in penalties for going over that amount? Isn't there a rule coming in soon about clubs only being allowed to spend a certain percentage of their annual turnover on wages, or did I imagine that?

I believe that rule is already present in League Two and I think its 30% of their annual turnover. Im sure there is a way of getting around it mind you.

Can't remember what the loophole was exactly though.

It was only when it fell through that his and Eriksson's wages became a problem.
